Discussing these results and any next steps later today.
Each TA also had their own evaluations, but those are for them to review and share as they choose
Do you do mid-semester evaluations in your classroom? I really like them and find them a valuable pedagogical tool.

Below a 4- pop quizzes (3.28/7). Honestly, surprised this wasn't rated lower as they were implemented due to students cheating on lecture activities.
13 of the 60 comments also specifically mentioned hating pop quizzes, the most commonly mentioned item in the comments.
TAs and I will be...
187 people filled out the survey and 60 left additional comments.
Accessibility measure were rated the highest: posting slides to Canvas before class (6.52/7), auto-captioning lectures (6.12/7), and recording lectures for students to view later (6.05/7)
Of the 16 items, only 1 measured...cont.
Mid-semester evaluation results are in!
This semester, I have 205 people enrolled in my class, so I moved to 7-point likert scales and an optional comment section to reduce coding time.
16 items listed, aggregate scores compiled for each. Anything below a 4 needs to be reassessed. Cont.
My latest co-authored article with Megan Condis was just published in Games: Research and Practice. And it's open access!
Check out "Rad Dudes, Rude ‘Tude, and the Family, Too: How Nintendo and Sega Advertisements Shaped the Image of Gaming in the 1990s."
Tomorrow is the lecture where my students get to Google me. I wonder who will find this post first?
Now is the time of year for book recs!
What should I be adding to my "to-read" pile for 2026?
Niece: was Medusa a bad guy?
Me, trying to figure out how to explain this without going into certain details:...some people thought she was, but that's not necessarily true.
Showed my niece the Percy Jackson series yesterday and had to keep pausing to explain the myths things were based on (she had questions).
Niece: how do you know all this?
Me: oh my sweet summer child...
Attempting to bargain with my cat, who has taken this article I'm reading hostage.
He is mad because the niblings were over and he found that overwhelming.
I haven't told him yet that they're back tomorrow...
The holiday is over which means, in the midst of taking down decorations, it's time to edit a few papers for journal submission and work on dissertation edits
If anyone wants to offer suggestions on a piece about epideixis and play I'm planning out, let me know :)
I've officially made it to my hotel. Now to adjust my internal clock for the conference...
Hope everyone enjoys the final hours of the rapture

Today's the day I let my students try and find out what they can about me online
Always an interesting day
Things I loved from the first week of classes:
Students are asking really interesting questions! Questions included "Was Shakespeare cheating?" and "was Plato the PewDiePie of his day?"
These were relevant to the lecture/readings and really thought provoking!
The 1st of September isn't my favorite. Summer funding finished in July so no income in August but bills are still due.
Looking forward to the return of paychecks soon
What's your organization scheme for your books? #academic
Currently trying to learn some Portuguese for the upcoming @aoir.bsky.social conference
Why does Duolingo think my mother can only be from Mexico, Brazil, or Japan?
I hope everyone is getting the #NCA25 results they're hoping for!
Finding evidence that Gamergate was the result of Reaganomics was not on my research bingo card, but here we are.
And another AoIR/NCA reviewer season is done.
This year I did 6 AoIR reviews and 18 NCA reviews (despite a glitch that made me not show up as a reviewer)
Pretty decent numbers and some interesting submissions this year!
I once again have to say, if you see me on a dating app and then go out of your way to find and follow me on social media, without us matching or conversing on that dating app, you are creepy. Stop it.
Today was my last day of "teaching" for the spring semester. "Teaching" because the class voted for a class party (vs no class). 11 students showed up despite the rain and played Fibbage with me
Good way to end the semester :) ♡
Can I pick the state?
You can always tell I have a lot of work to do when my chores are getting done.
Lots of unfinished stuff to get done today, but I've cleaned part of my bathroom and took the trash out. x)
Students were great today (if a little quiet during discussion). More than one was building connections between the lecture topic and other things (and talking to me about them)so that's a success to me :)
First day of the spring semester was yesterday and students were asking questions about the syllabus and work!
Let's hope that continues in the first content lecture tomorrow
The problem is I need another bookcase.
Did I get books for the holidays? Yes.
Have I also bought 3 more books in the last 2 weeks? Also yes.
I have a problem.

Obviously anything Shifman. I'll check my list when I next get a chance- one of my diss chapters looks at memes and hashtags as play so I should have some that will work.
