Time of year cycling to work along the Lee Navigation when I start to see all the new life. Egyptian Geese tend not to be as good at keeping all their young alive as other large water fowl along here. Hopefully these 6 Goslings fare well.

In so many Western Democracies, corruption in public service is almost monopolised at the top (not entirely but mostly). I think you will only find consistent integrity in any branch of public service further down.

However agree a total ban (too and from school and on all types of mobile phone) would not be practicable in modern society and appeals to "but in our day" doesn't account for modern circumstance.

School leadership here. Yes, we ban them in school but the arguments with a few clueless parents are tiring and time-wasting. Making it law helps deal with parents who want to be their child's best friend and not a responsible parent. Much easier to tell them to take it up with the government.

It has its faults but this is a great aspect of the Westminster Model that is used in many of the democracies that were once British Dominions.

I did research on antisemitism in Britain in 2024 and early 2025 (before the Manchester attacks), visiting a synagogue and interviewing people working in support groups. Even then the statistics about hate crimes against Jews were really worrying.

And I am reminded why I like the Corporal Hicks character. He sleeps on the deacent jump ship. In my very brief part time military career, every time we went to Northern Australia in C130s the RAAF did tactical flying as we came into Northern bases, a rolercoaster flight, which I slept through.
