Finally, CCS and @terryfoxresearch.bsky.social are funding Dr Alberto Martin, who is researching a common gut microbe to understand its link to #cancer. He and his team will study how dietary fibre and supplements affect the microbe and its connection to #ColonCancer and other growths in the colon.

In partnership with @terryfoxresearch.bsky.social , CCS is supporting Dr Vincent Fradet’s research into how #ProstateCancer and gut bacteria affect one another. This work may lead to new ways of predicting #cancer and may even lead to new treatments that can reduce the aggressiveness of the disease.

Co-funded by CCS and the CIHR Institute of Population and Public Health, Dr Aaron Goodarzi is studying #LungCancer risk factors. His team will research factors like indoor air #pollution, radon data and genetics to understand people’s exposure and risk – as well as these cancers’ economic costs.

In partnership with the CIHR Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes, CCS is supporting Dr Rachel Murphy’s research into whether ultra-processed foods cause #ColonCancer. The team will also study how these foods affect gut bacteria and how changes to the gut bacteria may affect #cancer.

In a third project co-funded by CCS and the CIHR ICR, Dr Christopher Maxwell and colleagues are studying whether a drug used to stop milk production after pregnancy can help prevent #BreastCancer in people with mutations that increase their risk – paving the way for a #ClinicalTrial.

Also in partnership with the CIHR ICR, CCS is funding Dr Luke McCaffrey and his team in understanding why some lesions become #BreastCancer and others don’t – allowing people who need #cancer treatment to receive it quickly and those who don’t to avoid unnecessary procedures and side effects.

In partnership with the CIHR Institute of #Cancer Research (ICR), CCS is supporting Dr Mark Basik’s work on better #BreastCancer screening for young women. Using AI-assisted imaging and genomics, they aim to understand which people would benefit from specialized screening or preventive treatment.
