The back half of this is a big swing that falls flat, but I can respect that as a break from formula. The overall is unsettling, it's got two great scenes of horror, and its flaws didn't prevent me from enjoying it. John Gholson is particularly good in his role.

Man Finds Tape (2025)
Dir: Paul Gandersman, Peter S. Hall
This is good! I like this.
Not sure why a dystopian warscape is such a ray of sunshine in today's world but very much looking forward to this thnx @manmademoon.bsky.social
God forbid the world should be made comfortable to be in. Everything has to become an app, or service or bullshit, all served with ads that are explicitly designed to confuse people into making mistakes so they can steal their money for no reason.
Taking care of elderly parents is a great way to develop a deep hatred for the modern world.
At no point was I prepared for where that second sentence was going and it had more twists than most mystery novels I've encountered. Holy shit.
The main character frauds his way up the social ladder and people are talking about a lack of drama? If they have anything to comment on at all beyond the runtime? Come on, man.
I like the director and actors in [TITLE] and I still don't expect to enjoy it when I finally get around to seeing it, but holy shit the way that some of these people hate the movie is ridiculous. Yeah, it's long, but I can respect that, especially when things look as lush as I've seen them in this.
Gotta love a movie where every single character is fundamentally incapable of behaving in anything resembling a normal manner for five goddam minutes. A mix of screwball, slapstick, Marx Brothers, Looney Tunes, and made even more absurd in a New Hollywood manner.
Perhaps my favorite rom-com.
Introducing the girlfriend to the movie that made me laugh so hard I pulled something...
What's Up Doc? (1972)
Dir: Peter Bogdanovich
I know that you don't spill the beans and name names on the bad movies you watch (and understand why) but man, I'm always so curious, especially when it's something like THIS.
"Someone posting about how much they love a movie? I'm going to tell them how much it actually fucking sucked and I hated it!" -- dudes, for some reason
This is another one of those ‘Oh, look at the robot dog doing backflips, isn’t it cute and a marvel of technology’ stories, meanwhile we all know these things are being built to hand them guns so they can be used as troops and cops.
JK Rowling’s support of transphobia has been absolutely catastrophic for the entire world. She funded a far right movement, tested, weaponized it—and it is a cancer eating away at multiple societies. She normalized a lying narrative about people that will plague future generations. She is a curse.

Really sucks to see so many YouTubers treating Harry Potter as if it's any other franchise rather than the revenue stream of a bigot actively funding a hate movement.
I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
I consistently repeat to folks that they do not in fact ever *succeed* on their own. Sometimes the assistance is visible, often it is submerged. None of the USian billionaires *succeeded* on their own. In fact, most of them continue to benefit from your money, labor, etc....

Amazing that in the national divorce the libs are getting the NFL, butter and cooking oil, being attracted to adult women, standup comedy, Bud Light, and now also Catholicism

NASA and Mamdani are proving that Americans are desperate to see their money spent in ways they feel good about.
This, however, is not the same thing as simply spending the money on things we would feel good about but never know happened. People need to be able to see it.
Trust me, I'm acutely aware and offer this as another double feature idea (and shameless self-promotion):
Reposted with some of the others I love but an outside pick for me is ROLLERBALL
While Alien is my pick, I have to give tremendous amounts of respect to some other stellar entries into the genre during the decade:
STALKER
INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS
CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND
STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE
Video Rental Store Nostalgia = Generally Good
Specifically Blockbuster Nostalgia = Terribly Misplaced If Not Entirely Bad
I worked for years at both a Blockbuster and a mom & pop local rental place. Blockbuster was the devil that killed every cool video store it could via monopolistic practices
