A budget is about choices, and this government’s priorities are all wrong.

The High Court’s decision to strike down Victoria’s campaign funding laws is a win for democracy & a reminder that political finance reform must strengthen fairness, transparency & integrity. It also sends a message nationally as federal electoral reform laws are being challenged in the High Court.

We know budget repair is needed to reduce the high interest costs Australia is paying on national debt, but Australians are already doing it tough & cutting income support would only hurt those most vulnerable. A 25% gas export tax is a modest proposal for the use of our national resources.

By leaving online advertising largely untouched, the government is putting big business ahead of the wellbeing of Australians. The government’s message is clear: industry profits take precedence over public safety.

Parliament returns today - here are the bills scheduled for debate.

This week I’ll be speaking on the High Seas Biodiversity Bill 2026 - which implements Australia’s obligations under the UN High Seas Treaty.

Real national resilience does not come from staying hooked on imported fuel. We need to electrify the economy and transport, expand charging infrastructure, modernise the grid, and make it easier for households and businesses to cut oil dependence.

Australia Institute analysis shows that if the Albanese government had introduced a 25% gas export tax back in 2022, it would have raised more than $63 billion!

"During the post-Covid year, gas companies made up to $40 billion in profit from that crisis."

Today marks 1,000 days since the Murphy Report was handed to the govt. The timeline of the govt's action since then is simple: none.

No response. No implementation. No urgency. Meanwhile, gambling harm continues to devastate individuals, families and communities.

Today marks 1,000 days since the Murphy Report was handed to the government. 31 recommendations, including a ban on gambling ads, and still no response. We know gambling harm fuels family violence. The government must act on the Murphy Report now. #AusPol #BanGamblingAds

Energy security is national security & a cost-of-living issue.

Conflict in Iran is a reminder that reliance on oil and gas leaves Australia exposed to global shocks. The answer is more renewables, storage and electrification to cut bills, boost resilience and strengthen our energy sovereignty.

No Labor MP was prepared to speak in support of this bill and the government provided cover by rushing it through with no notice and no usual speaking list, preventing crossbenchers from speaking on the second reading debate about the serious flaws in the legislation.

This week I’ll be moving an amendment to the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility Bill.

I’m concerned that public finance has previously supported fossil fuel projects, and I’ll be pushing to ensure NAIF decisions are consistent with Australia’s commitment to net zero by 2050.

A win for transparency. ✅

Labor has dropped proposed FOI changes that would have added fees and made access to government documents harder. I opposed this bill because FOI must strengthen accountability, not reward secrecy.

AEC disclosures show more than $138 million in political funding in 2024–25 had no declared source under the current rules.

When dark money & big donors shape our politics, public trust suffers. Australians deserve govts that are not fundraising from industries that profit when policy is weakened.

The violent scenes that played out in central Sydney last night were deeply troubling, and entirely foreseeable.

We are Australians, first and foremost. Inviting a foreign head of state to Australia when the consequences for social cohesion are so obvious shows a serious failure of judgment.

Parliament returns for Week 2!

As always, I’ll assess each bill on its merits – is it workable, evidence-based, and in the best interests of Warringah & Australia?

Inflation pressures remain persistent.

In 2024–25, the Govt handed out $12.5 billion in fossil fuel subsidies. It’s time to rethink priorities.

We need smarter, climate-aligned budgeting that delivers real cost-of-living relief and invests in Australia’s future.

The public wants accountability and the issue of femicide and intimate partner violence elevated. Only a national RC will ensure state and territory responses, funding, policing, all failures, all policies, are scrutinised.

The Govt rushed legislation on firearms and hate crimes. While I had serious concerns about the process and moved amendments to strengthen the laws, I ultimately supported the Bills in the interests of public safety and social cohesion. Read my statement to better understand my amendments and vote.

Australia is making progress—but we must accelerate our transition to clean energy.

We need urgent action:
✅ Stronger targets for transport, agriculture and aviation
✅ A Sustainable Aviation Fuel mandate
✅ Accurate monitoring of methane

It’s been over 2 years since the late Peta Murphy’s inquiry into online gambling advertising & how it affects problem gamblers. Since then, Australians have lost $60 billion to gambling.

Australians need a government with the will and the courage to protect them from gambling harms.
