The High Court’s decision to strike down Victoria’s campaign funding laws is a win for democracy & a reminder that political finance reform must strengthen fairness, transparency & integrity. It also sends a message nationally as federal electoral reform laws are being challenged in the High Court.

We know budget repair is needed to reduce the high interest costs Australia is paying on national debt, but Australians are already doing it tough & cutting income support would only hurt those most vulnerable. A 25% gas export tax is a modest proposal for the use of our national resources.

By leaving online advertising largely untouched, the government is putting big business ahead of the wellbeing of Australians. The government’s message is clear: industry profits take precedence over public safety.

Energy security is national security & a cost-of-living issue.

Conflict in Iran is a reminder that reliance on oil and gas leaves Australia exposed to global shocks. The answer is more renewables, storage and electrification to cut bills, boost resilience and strengthen our energy sovereignty.

No Labor MP was prepared to speak in support of this bill and the government provided cover by rushing it through with no notice and no usual speaking list, preventing crossbenchers from speaking on the second reading debate about the serious flaws in the legislation.

This week I’ll be moving an amendment to the Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility Bill.

I’m concerned that public finance has previously supported fossil fuel projects, and I’ll be pushing to ensure NAIF decisions are consistent with Australia’s commitment to net zero by 2050.

When dark money & big donors shape our politics, public trust suffers. Australians deserve govts that are not fundraising from industries that profit when policy is weakened.

The violent scenes that played out in central Sydney last night were deeply troubling, and entirely foreseeable.

We are Australians, first and foremost. Inviting a foreign head of state to Australia when the consequences for social cohesion are so obvious shows a serious failure of judgment.

Inflation pressures remain persistent.

In 2024–25, the Govt handed out $12.5 billion in fossil fuel subsidies. It’s time to rethink priorities.

We need smarter, climate-aligned budgeting that delivers real cost-of-living relief and invests in Australia’s future.

The public wants accountability and the issue of femicide and intimate partner violence elevated. Only a national RC will ensure state and territory responses, funding, policing, all failures, all policies, are scrutinised.

The Govt rushed legislation on firearms and hate crimes. While I had serious concerns about the process and moved amendments to strengthen the laws, I ultimately supported the Bills in the interests of public safety and social cohesion.
