Mandelson

The most interesting thing about the latest Mandleson scandal for me is that someone who had been a Minister twice could fail the security screening to be a senior civil servant. Makes you wonder how many others are known to be corrupt, doesn't it?

Taking money for authorising wars. I wonder if any organised religions have form for this?

This is a good take - thanks for sharing. I think the people around him (the visible ones, and the ones who stay in the background) have a very clear idea of what he's useful for. Understanding of *them* would give strategically useful insights.

The Jagger/Bowie moment was a low point in the careers of both men. It was the music business attempting to turn them into 'pop stars', and they went along with it. Keith Richards autobiography has it right.

Yeah. It would be good to be able to open up the book of all your ancestors, and not run out of plot for every female character at the end of every chapter.

Merely pointing out that overblown egotists with a fondness for monumental architecture and racist social policies are not the sole prerogative of Americans.

All it needs is a hundred years of exhaust stains, a big roundabout, and an underpass complex with a few dozen rough sleepers. Maybe a few gastarbeiters picking up the tourists' rubbish. It wouldn't look out of place in any European capital.

Looked at from another perspective, it's an arms race we're all going to end up paying for, both financially and in terms of the planet's limited resources. If you want to use internet-connected computers as a part of global finance, you will need to be spending big on AI and passing the costs on.

What about the w*nkers hot-footing it back from Dubai? Put them all at the bottom of a housing waiting list, make them live in falling down ring-road hotels, give them ÂŁ5 a day for food, and make them pay to use the NHS.

Ambulance workers to strike next month over pay Workers at the National Ambulance Service have served notice of industrial action to take place next month in a dispute over pay.

It defies belief that National Ambulance Service workers have spent six years waiting for their skills and expertise to be recognised. Our members will strike next month and they have @unitetheunion.bsky.social's total support in this fight for fair pay.

Doesn't the EU need a coherent fiscal policy first? IMO a single currency doesn't really work if you have half the block wanting to do high tax/welfare and the other half wanting to do the opposite. I was remain/reform in 2016, and the reform part is still on the 'to do' list in the EU.

Are you forgetting the joys of the Norbreck Castle? 50s, 60s and 70s covers bands, and if you don't make it to the bogs in time... well, no-one's bothered. But you can't smoke indoors anymore. Not like the old days. Probably why it's only 2.2/5 on trip advisor www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review...

I don't think anyone thinks it's working, even on the right. But making it fairer would create a lot of rich-and-influential losers, who will fund propaganda and delay. So the reform process will be expensive and time-consuming (almost certainly >1 parliament). Should it be a manifesto commitment?
