A painting of Lucifer tempting Jesus in the desert. Lucifer is INCREDIBLY naked, dirty, and lurid, rubbing up ons Jesus' robes from behind; his hand is open in offering and is placed in front of Jesus' crotch
I just re-found this painting, which was in a kid's bible I had growing up. I used to obssess over it, and I'm pretty sure seeing Lucifer here was the first time I thought a man was attractive? Over the years I'd think "it couldn't possibly be as horny as I remember it", but I mean come ON

You ever think about how evangelicals embrace of transphobia alongside an abandonment of belief in acts suggest a more general abandonment of a belief in a soul, and instead simply a belief in "godliness" as genetic birthright... in this essay I will

Khamenei was given a martyr's death instead of facing justice for the crimes of his regime; instead of standing before his accusers. Hardliners stand vindicated through America and Israel's unprovoked war. We have robbed them for 47 years of their rights to self-determination.

Blind refugee abandoned by Border Patrol dies in Buffalo.
A nearly blind refugee abandoned by Border Patrol miles from his home dies in Buffalo after having been missing for nearly a week.
a horrifying story. This regime is killing people in point blank murders, but also though the violence and cruelty of carelessly throwing people in a system designed to treat them as less than human.

WSJ chart titled "The US Economy Depends More Than Ever On Rich People: The highest-earning 10% of Americans account for almost 50% of all consumer spending."
It shows that the spending of the bottom 90% of income has lost almost 75% of their total savings since mid-2021.
The economy we're in now is 100% a result of government/big business backlash to what happened between March 2020 and June 2021.
Workers got a little more freedom and secured marginal wage growth and they responded with an all out war on the cost of living.
This chart shows the impact of that war:

The left tried for decades to pass green energy subsidies, passed them, the subsidies worked, and now literally the entire planet's electricity grid is going to convert to solar+battery. It just doesn't feel like "tech" because it mostly produces kinda boring blue collar jobs instead of billionaires

I really do believe that, by the way. Our cities are the most American places in the United States—they represent what and who we are in a way in an incredibly rich and profound way. And until we as a country accept that, embrace that, celebrate that, we're fucked.

JewBelong reminds me of when Scientologists used to go around screaming “What are your CRIMES?!?” on camera when confronted. Some logic wrapped up in all of their alienating priors tells them the message is sound and compelling, but to anyone on the outside it’s incoherent

This is the aftermath of an ICE kidnapping a few blocks from my home in St. Paul—an hour ago. A quiet street full of broken glass and at least three wrecked cars. The target of the kidnapping was taken away by ambulance. He was on a stretcher and covered by a sheet, though a cop said he was alive.

In South Minneapolis
Amna A. Akbar
‘ICE operate faster than they used to. The abductions now happen within minutes and it is much harder to delay and obstruct them. Minneapolis federal court received almost as many habeas petitions – asking judges to order the release of those unlawfully detained – in January as in the entire period from 2016 to 2024. More important, the federal judges in Minnesota are granting the petitions and people are coming home. But then ICE started transferring people out of state as quickly as possible, often within eight hours, thwarting the local habeas efforts. Every day now, chartered deportation flights leave from the Twin Cities airport carrying people with their hands and feet in shackles.’
Every day, it gets worse and worse. From the @lrb.co.uk newsletter.
