Was gonna take a little 2-week break from the novel WIP to write a short story. Got about 500-1,000 words in before I realized this story is actually a sort of stand-alone chapter of the novel, and an important one at that (though I still think it'll work as its own thing). Funny how that happens.

my husband sent me this video of two bees fucking on his book 🥲
Seriously, I'm not shocked that Bluesky is vibe-coded. But I've already ditched FB and Twitter for similar reasons, and if this ship is sinking too I'm basically offline. Is Mastadon still a thing? Is it even worth it?
Are there any social media platforms that HAVEN'T become completely infested with AI?
Thanks! Sorry for missing that rule. Won't happen again. :)
I'm David, and I mostly write pulpy horror (think monsters, dinosaurs, and weird body horror) with literary heart. My debut collection (below) turned four years old last week! This week I'm reading THE WRITHING, VERDANT END from @cursedmorsels.bsky.social, and I most recently watched UNDER THE SKIN.

And this, friends, is why we do not support Amazon under any circumstance. Just no.

One hopes images like this, when paired with the knowledge that everything we burn ends up in that tiny slice of gasses, would help contextualize why we need to move away from energy sources we set on fire.
One hopes. Climate communicators should make some hay of this.
we're talking about Columbo here but I wanted to point this out
the "doesn't carry a gun. guns are tools of the enemy." trope is just... the hugest manliest masculine big dick energy imaginable. It's the baddest ass of character traits. You never fuck with that guy. It's so cool, it's the coolest.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION WILL DIE TONIGHT My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools. Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's "keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's "we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight." It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before. "It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time. A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead. @michaelfdubois Mukad A QuBoy @michacifdubois

If genAI becomes the accepted "new norm" in major film/TV production or Big 5 book publishing, I'll be watching/reading a lot less new stuff. Same with music, etc. I'd happily rather spend the rest of my life in a pre-2020s media bubble than embrace the anti-art, anti-human, anti-life theft machine.
oh look: wholesomeness
In the '80s, Harlan Ellison wrote about the Voyager 1 flyby of Saturn and noted his dismay about this amazing achievement of humanity having to share headlines with a devastating war in Iran. Almost half a century later, here we are again: cretinous leaders tainting wonder with needless bloodshed.
