Is this genuinely unheard of or is this something that used to happen that is happening again? I remember reading about very large groups of whales from the supposed chronicles of whalers hundreds of years ago but do not know what was accurate and what was exaggerated (or outright made up).

Oh has she ever done her sawscale impression? It actually kind of unnerved me when I first saw that even though I knew what it was
My egg eating snake in the process of consuming a quail egg. She will use the spines on her neck vertebrae to crack open the egg and then spit out the eggshell
I miss my egg eater. It took forever for me to get him to eat like that.

Congressman Wittman frustrate me more than most. He has a background in marine science and environmental health. He was my representative in 2016, when he'd send out big promise emails about how he wasn't *that* kind of Republican and would push back against Trump.
He did not.
This week's new article is out! Honestly, I can't gush about these fossils enough. Three protomammal embryos, all from a species that survived one of the worst mass extinctions of all time? It's amazing.
“Into the woodchipper” is, coincidentally, where these politicians should go.
A northern Mole Kingsnake, Lampropeltis rhombomaculata, rests on a log. A cryptic species whose northern range includes Maryland, it mostly feeds on rodents as well as lizards, other snakes, and their eggs. It is something of an indicator species, highlighting some of the Herpetological diversity in the Delmarva Peninsula.
A combination of native habitat with some invasive plants ending abruptly in a construction zone. This habitat was already being damaged by human influence but the construction will totally destroy what is left available to wildlife. There were already of birds and insects fleeing this scene when this photo was taken.
An eastern box turtle, Terrapene carolina carolina, whose wandering has been suddenly halted by a mechanical construction barrier. This is part of this turtle’s habitat and it will likely perish once the project is complete. Box turtles exhibit high habitat fidelity so it would not be able to just easily find another habitat.
Destroyed habitat in Maryland. We saw multiple species across a wide range of taxa of birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects in the process of being displaced by this.
Resharing some pics for #EarthDay
This is wildlife habitat in Maryland that is slated for development and thus to be destroyed for all life that is not human or human adjacent. A Mole Kingsnake and a box turtle perilously close to the destruction. Both species and others will be displaced by this.
a silly digital #SciArt doodle pinup of planet earth, imagine a pair of very makeuped brown eyes and kissable red lips slapped onto the globe, but there are also two long legs in stockings and long heels coming out of the globe, with the south pole being a butt, below the moon is all flustered and blushing, to the right a satellite is in love with little hearts, all are on a purple background with purple stars and a purple XOXO in the bottom right.
happy birthday to the OG MILF #HappyEarthDay

A remarkable find in Maui! We identified the 96th hawksbill turtle in Hawaii and named him Cousteau, highlighting the importance of marine conservation efforts.
ICE needs to be abolished and everyone who has ever worked for it needs to be tried for crimes against humanity. At the bare minimum.
Ok, good enough. Fuck yeah, let’s make movies. 🎥
Angled down image of a rattlesnake, partially buried in sand and facing left. The snake’s colors match its sandy surroundings.
I’m flying home from Phoenix today after spending a few days in northern Mexico. Here’s a sidewinder rattlesnake (Crotalus cerastes) observed in the light of morning at El Pinacate and Gran Altar Desert Natl Park. These are sandy habitat specialists as the photo suggests. #herps #snakes 🌿

An owl perched on a branch, within a tangle of branches. The owl's body is turned slightly right of the camera, while the head is turned slightly to the left. The owl's breast and belly are white with brown streaks. The shoulders and head are brown with white dots. The beak, which is small and tucked in, is yellow. The visible eye is yellow with a large black pupil. The in-focus branches are gray, but with small splotches of yellow lichen.
A Northern pygmy-owl in Cienega Canyon, in the Sandia Mountains of New Mexico, on April 20, 2026. In the words of the birder who pointed it out to me, it's the size "of a Coke can."

Get the hell out of here.
If you projected any harder you would see yourself on the moon. Try having a discussion instead of reacting to everything. Let me guess, you think the only real jobs are ai and the reactionary media that you lap up.
Lenny saying to Homer while he’s going to his refrigerator for a late night snack: “You still here? Boy, you are slow.”
Lol I didn’t google anything, that was off the top of my head. I’d say your reaction to just dismissing those as “stuffy Oxford jobs” (lol wtf) is more reactionary in of itself. None of those are “archaic” and are currently extremely important to the world. Also, 10 days for that cliched response?
I would say I was traumatized more by the death overall, personally speaking. That said, the interruption to things felt apocalyptic and was definitely a part of the overall trauma. It all melded together really at the time. It also was surreal to have to move and change jobs during that time.
