Salute to an all-time tweet

I literally just woke up from a nightmare that I said on a podcast “you should be able to drive faster though Del Ray”

Its not a hot take but man the way the word "content" is used these days. A vile bit of late stage capitalist propaganda, lumping all forms of human creativity and expression into a single wastebin teaching the public to treat all art as disposable.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars | Official Trailer | Disney+ YouTube video by Star Wars

I've been rewatching some Clone Wars, particularly the Maul-centric stuff, between episodes of the new show -- and goddamn, it's wildly uneven, but at it's peak it's SO good. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLW2...

Win or lose, there remains a real measure of promise and decency in America that is worth the fight. And win or lose, there is no dignity for any of us unwilling to have that fight.

I look back and laugh at all the family that told me I'd become conservative once I started to work and pay taxes. Maybe it's a generational thing but I can't imagine how anyone can grow up in the 21st century and think "yeah, this unchecked capitalism stuff is going great"

Corollary: I hate TV news chasing down families of the accused after court, asking them for an interview, then airing them saying no and trying to get away.

It's understood that would be beyond the pale to do for a victim's family, but the family of the accused are just as innocent.

Homicide in North Old Town There was more to Colby Dielle McClennon than a criminal record.

My go-to for this was back in 2016 when Colby McClennon crossed the country just to be killed in the park where he grew up and every other article at the time was "drug addict released from California killed". Wish I could go door to door for every story. www.alexandriagazette.com/news/2016/de...

I also hate that occupation is always the top thing someone is listed as. Like it makes sense now for me because I feel like "journalist" is part of my identity, but if I'd been killed in a robbery when I worked at a gas station and you called me "gas station worker" in my obit I'd haunt you forever

I’ve written a ton of “x person died” stories and it’s a gut punch every single time that someone who spent decades on this earth making friends, having hobbies, experiencing love and heartbreak — gets boiled down to name, age, cause of death and maybe one notable factoid of they’re lucky.

I mentioned black and red is my favorite color scheme and the older guy across from me said "Oh, like the black fire house in Game of Thrones"
I casually nodded and said "Yeah, the Targaryens."
Him: "No, I mean House Blackfyre."

Incredible realizing you've found another geeky friend at work

Staggering going from a "Revolutions" episode on my way into work about the horrendous labor conditions at the dawn of the industrial revolution and how it shaped Marx and Engel, then going into the newsroom and seeing the latest travesties at some Amazon warehouse almost two hundred years later

Putting down A Song of Ice and Fire because as much as I love the scheming and politics I know I’ll be frustrated when the older guy writing it dies and leaves it unfinished…

Picking up Robert Caro’s LBJ biography series instead!

Anchor: Vernon, who is your favorite [musical] artist?
Me: Hurray for the Riff Raff! They're a folk band with a lot of influence from Puerto Rico and early 20th century Americana-

FWIW I was never super attached to Mara Jade like some folks and I don’t think she’s pivotal to Thrawn’s story in heir. His stuff in new canon still works.

The bigger loss from canon IMO is they really glaze over the Noghri stuff and (spoilers) Rukh dies unceremoniously in Rebels

Mild spoilers but there’s a great sequence where there’s two enemy ships set out as bait and a stationary third ship that’s cloaked, but they realize the ships are slightly rotating and they can triangulate based on that gravitational shift and a comms system technobabble where the third ship is

I mean this in the best way possible: I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Star Wars thing talk about physics this much. Illustrates that there’s so many ways a tractor bream can be the deadliest thing on a ship. Makes me think of s3 Picard and this great bit in Mass Effect

IDK if there's any good book about it but I absolutely love reading about Mosby's Raiders and the Union's counterinsurgency in Northern Virginia; neighbor-against-neighbor clashes and terrorism that feels more like The Troubles or Iraq than what people picture about the Civil War

Also fwiw it’s a direct sequel to stuff at the very end of The Clone Wars, so you can use that as a tease. If she can handle the late Clone Wars stuff (imo the Umbara arc, my favorite CW story, is probably similar levels of intensity) too then she is probably okay with Maul but it could be too dark

1 week ago 1 0 0 0

1. It is
2. It is not

The less pithy answer is I think it’s a definitely more on the violent and intense side. Depending on what your eight year old can handle, I’d say the cop stuff might be boring and the Maul stuff might be too intense.

If the haven’t seen Clone Wars or Rebels though…
