I heard them at 845am, but I didn't actually see them until nearly midday! There are 2 reedbeds for them to hide in. Good luck if you go!

Yes, they are really struggling. Some great work is being done here, though. Breeding areas are totally fenced off, and some larger beaches are closed from 3pm to allow the penguins to come ashore without being disturbed.
