UPDATE.

Npcs arent just walking trade spots for potions and gear.
They are the backbone of your world building!!

When I say stuff like “The dragons hide is INDESTRUCTIBLE” - Bob the merchant
That isn’t to say it’s LITERALLY indestructible, but to tell my players that to this town, it FEELS indestructible. There are no other heroes that can’t solve the problem. And it might be a hard fight.

it solves a lot of problems.
1. It makes npcs more important and gives them character
2. It makes information relevant and sometimes unreliable. (And you save room for secrets and lies)
3. Its drops important information without it feeling like a wiki entry.

In the most recent episode of KotSK, raymun talks about how he thinks the Targaryens are weird aliens.
And although the Targaryens aren’t LITERALLY aliens, it provides the best example of what the smaller folk think of the ruling class.
Out of touch foreigners.

As a DM, I try to avoid waiting for scrolls and authority figures to give lore and backstory.
A lot of DMs do this and often times it feels like a wiki entry.
I always try to tell the lore through perspective

As a DM, a knight of the seven kingdoms does world building PERFECTLY. And I don’t think I’ve seen a show demonstrate what i try to achieve in my games this well before. #ttrpgs
