Temporal evolution of the GJES: (a) Rate and cumulative number of earthquakes from TM detection. (b) Seismicity timeline: Moment magnitudes of TM detections color-coded by template association. (c) Statistical analysis I: Diurnalized a-value (i.e., normalized to reflect a rate based on a 24-hour reference period) and b-value of TM detections larger MC=MW0.7.

I don't want to say this was completely unexpected, because this is something changes in ice coverage can affect, but increasing seismic hazards is not the first impact of climate change that comes to mind. 🧪

Astrobiologists/geobiologists: what basic science have we done that has led to practical inventions / applications?

The obvious answer is Thermus aquaticus -> Taq -> PCR... but there must be other examples?

My first twitter post was made during a CDEBI mtg... fitting that I make my bluesky debut during COBRA's Ocean Governance workshop, talking about Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction. Excited to think about this intersection of sci+policy and building intl collaborations.
