Only thing I’ve got for you is from C. S. Forester’s Hornblower series. Probably A Ship of the Line.

1. For those of you who are new here, a little backstory. I did Twitter threads of cooking simple but tasty meals that would yield leftovers. This is because a few second lieutenants, God love ‘em, had separately DM’d me for cooking tips, as they were in their first adult apartments & had less
I miss reading rainbow.
Strange new worlds is still a ton of fun. Even when it’s doing the most self referential, aggrandizing and weirdly
fun episodes it’s still entertaining and a small reminder that we don’t live in the worst timeline.
Thinking about my children’s inheritance. Things like this reminded me of the transience of ‘money.’ Yes, my wife might have ETFs and dividends to pass on when she dies, but will it mean anything in 40 yrs , vs the value of experience, education, and ethics that we could pass to our children now?
All the dire implications notwithstanding it is hilarious how evil this technology is. Billions of dollars spent on this greasy lying stupid thing that was literally built to replace people, and everyone that uses it gets weaker, lazier, dumber, and sadder for having done so. Well done all around.
As a nineties child, I was watching Star Trek: The Original Series last night and had a deep need to watch The Next Generation as comfort TV, because that’s my familiar opening sequence and crew. And it was everything. The shape of that ship, the music, the pastels…
Adding to the topic d’jour. I’m living out of a hotel room (for work) this month and still eating almost exclusively from the grocery store. Some fruit, milk and cereal for breakfast, sandwich bar for lunch, and prepared chicken or pork and rice for dinner. Still cheaper than eating out every night.
Vacation or work?
I still count Vonnegut and Haldeman as great artists because they could explain, in an accessible way, how veterans become unmoored from the societies they fought for.
It’s an oldy, but still capable of putting out great episodes:
This time I appreciate the conversation in the last half about veteran’s of WWII asking why their children had to fight in another war.
I’m very surprised that auto manufacturers don’t sell child car seats. It makes too much sense that I could buy car seats specific to my vehicle (no Diono struggle) that have connected sensors, are easy to install, etc.
Use a reservoir of sugar water in a maple log. You could even try a solar oven to boil down the ‘sap’ in this heat.
Looking for French songs for the oldest to help him learn the language and my wife found this banger. Took us three days of playing it before we thought to look up the lyrics… parenting is going great. m.youtube.com/watch?v=Y99U...
Does defense news pay for opinion pieces? I’ve been through online PME and am fully capable, for the right price, of writing or editing 2000 of absolute insanity. Just say
If you see this, post a knight.
There’s a UCP in there too. Straight back to 2010
Yeah, they’re still cheaper than new robot legs.
Saved my leg when I was a teenager. Chainsaw caught the chaps, gave me enough warning to move my leg and the saw. Took a minute to appreciate that I wasn’t calling an ambulance then got back to work. New chaps were purchased soon after.
I’ve started braising meat on Saturday or Sunday then using the meat and sauce in various recipes throughout the week. It’s working really well. Need to refine my use for the leftover sauce, but easy way to make 3-4 easy meals through the week. Got the idea here:
Two loaves of pale, flat baguettes on a wire rack
This started as 5 loaves…what they lack in visual appeal they make up for in fresh out of the oven flavor.
Wife and oldest were sick at home today so instead of going fishing I stayed home to take care of them and made my first attempt at baguettes.🥖 Wife was happy with both choices.
How the Nazis Lost the War on Amazon is actually a really good WWII docuseries debunking pro-nazi and Wehrmacht stuff. How the Nazis Lost the War
How will we even survive the corporate world with firm boundaries like these?
At 10pm last night I had just gotten my toddler to sleep and was about to start dishes. We are not the same
I was about to say, put it on teams, but remembered the GO part…
I walked into weekend convos between the bobs about things they didn’t have background on and I need to have a convo with the 6 about their weekend network privileges.
This picky child won’t eat new fruit or veggies. Then I sneak some steak under their picky nose and suddenly I’m getting lectures about trying new things, including Daniel Tiger ditties, “You gotta try new food ‘cause it might taste good!”
It’s their teenage years that I worry about. “Dad, I’m going to a concert tonight and hanging with friends.”
“Will you be leaving before or after your mom and I hit the early bird special?”
“The concert starts after your bedtime, Dad.”
“Don’t wake us up when you leave.”
Music shuffle keeps bouncing between music I listened to during deployments and what I listened to when I got home.
