1)All of the darksiders, but 2 is a bit hazy (tho I know 3 is a soulslike).
2)Game Dev specifically, currently working on a zelda inspired 3D action adventure. And while I know some of those games, I do not know all of them and would like to learn more and study more.

For research purposes, I am looking for some game recommendations that are similar to classic 3D Zelda games (OOT,MM,TWW,TP,SS). What other games had a similar formula? I am aware of Darksiders, Okami and Dungeons of Hinterberg and a few Indie titles, but I would be happy to hear about more games.
People love to call 2014-2018 the "golden age of speedrunning" but honestly the community around speedrunning is so much better now. I do not miss the GDQ Cringe Compilations and anti-SJW grifters that took up so much of the conversation. Glad that stuff is mostly dead.
In 2022 I think i contemplated working on yet another speedrun discoverability website tool, which I ditched, but this makes me wonder with a big "what if?" and if such a discoverability tool would be even still useful. But yeah, TLDR, I just want to find more cool speedruns and speedrunners :/
Yup. I still try to go through them sometimes, as I in the past I was in bed, hunting new speedrun streamers before sleeping and I found some lovely people that way. Therun brought back some SRL vibes from back then and helps with some discoverability but runners need to use it in the first place.
I just wish for a tad more harmony in that regard. And I really would love that feeling of community to come back but I genuinely do not know what could help to achieve this. But overall, I am very happy with speedrunning and I do not wish the drama times back with those cringe videos. We've grown.
For me this is still one of the worst changes. Considering that 90000 other streams tag themself with speedrun, it is also quite unreliable to find runners. Makes me miss SRL. Discovering new speedrunners is now so hard.
Oh and if there is one thing that still bothers me is fragmentation.
I don't have to rewrite it again (realistically I will). At least I have documentation to look at to understand my approach later on + it helps me with game design regardless (as I am also filling this role).
I am so grateful I am actual a trained IT specialist here. Really comes in handy here.
It is kinda wild. Initially I thought, yeah I just need a simple FSM for my player controller. Now it is getting out of control with so many niche cases, that I need to probably implement it with a HSM approach instead. And now I am sitting here, planning this out before implementation so
However this is what I truly enjoy about GameDev. It is solving unique new problems each time. It is so much fun, however it is also very much exhaustive. I can't wait until I can work on some more simple things again.
Building a complex player controller has been the most challenging software engineering task ever. There are so many things to take care of. It truly is mindboggling. I also should have planned it better. Means I (or someone else in our team) will have to rewrite it at one point.
In light of recent news...
I gotta respectfully ask, is this tier list just for the unevolved starters or does this also count for all evolutions of them?
Lol apparently my reddit account got pwned and I never noticed it. I also never got an email. Must have been a leak somewhere in the past. Oh well, lets see if I can get the username at least back.

For those who want to see the tool, the creator of the tool has also released this video. It is just so impressive.

I guess if I ever wanted to make a N64 game, I know what tool to use now haha. This is so cool! github.com/HailToDodong...
There have been already plenty of posts outline all these issues, but I just want to vent. This bubble has to pop. And for everyone flocking in to defend LLM's and other genAI technology, yes, there are legitimate use cases. But this aint it. And especially not in this scale. This is just absurd.
AI is doing, is harming everyone. It's making games more mediocre if used, it's pushing people out of jobs, FOSS projects are drowing in AI PRs and it's making it impossible for the people that wanna play our games in the first place to actually play them on hardware they own! You cannot defend that
These materials are harder to get. With this, computing is becoming unaffordable for the average consumer. Consoles also will increase in price. Gaming will be even more of a luxury as before. It is absurd and crazy to me that people still defend AI, especially in the games industry, when all that
The push for AI is the reason currently for all types of shortages. You might have heard about the increased costs for PC components such as RAM, GPU's, SSD's now also HDD's and some CPUs. But for all the data centers there is also an increased demand for aluminium and copper for cooling.
The AI bubble RAM crisis is caused for non-existent problems by non-existent money for a non-existent infrastructure to meet non-existent demand to make non-existent business and will utterly destroy real business based on real demand and real infrastructure built with real money for real problems.
As for my own #PortfolioDay, Im still chugging along with my more recent work under NDA but always happy to share my work from 9 years ago! My latest personal work was running the Timmy Day 2025 event which involved several months of environmental art & animating cinematics for a large stream event.

Hi #PortfolioDay π
I'm Johanna, a German game programmer/generalist. Worked on lots of small games with various people which you can play on my itch page at matse007.itch.io
I also worked on shaders in Godot, implementing my own version of a customizable cel shader and customizable sobel outlines.
This isnt my strong suit but I thought considering that many people in the game dev space are currently searching for a job, this might be interesting so I thought I should share this here as well. Good luck to everyone who is applying. #gamedev #gamedevjobs
