We find that ADC-fMRI shows no detectable correlation with hemodynamic fluctuations resulting from changes in CO2 concentrations, while BOLD does - even at matching SNR levels. πŸ‘Œ
This makes ADC-fMRI a unique and complementary functional contrast to BOLD.

Growing evidence that careful experimental design of ADC-fMRI yields functional information distinct from BOLD prompts the question of residual vascular sources.
We thus analyzed the ADC- and BOLD-fMRI responses to non-neuronal vascular fluctuations. πŸ₯

What an angry exchange with a reviewer taught me about arrogance and humility Nature - I should have paused and asked myself some tough questions. Instead, I started to type.

The most productive researchers are those who can engage in a critical exchange without letting their ego cloud their judgement

Autonomic physiological coupling of the global fMRI signal Nature Neuroscience - The brain and body are necessarily connected. Here the authors show that brain blood flow and electrical activity are coupled with systemic physiological changes in the body.

First post on an exciting new manuscript online today @natneuro.nature.com - in collab with @lucinauddin.bsky.social and Catie Chang. We take a fresh look at the physiological dynamics associated with the global signal 🧠 ...

Apparent Diffusion Coefficient fMRI shines light on white matter resting-state connectivity compared to BOLD - Communications Biology de Riedmatten et al. propose apparent diffusion coefficient functional MRI as a novel contrast for assessing functional connectivity in both grey matter and white matter, addressing the limitations of...

Why should fMRI connectivity be limited to gray matter nodes?
Using ADC-fMRI, we can robustly include white matter nodes and explore white-to-gray and white-to-white connectivity.
