Aside from who started it, states like CA and VA putting a counter-gerrymander up to a referendum, where people are told and can make a decision on the context for why it's being done, has vastly more democratic legitimacy than state legislators rushing it through because they got bullied by POTUS.

local business here created a sign that said OPEN in which the N was on a slider, so that at the end of the day when they closed they moved the N to the front of the word so it read NOPE. OPEN/NOPE that's the kind of sign the Straight of Hormuz needs.
that is absolutely on my list too, I just ran out of steam! Immigration is the secret of American success, without immigrants we would never have become the county we did in the mid-twentieth century. The absurd concept of "illegal" immigration didn't exist until well into the 20th century.
🍊🤡T crows about how fabulously "the economy" is doing, meaning how much more wealthy billionaires and corrupt politicians are getting , while ordinary people face rising food, housing, health care, and energy prices that threaten to destroy them. 4/...
There's more but I'll save it for later!
huge profitable corps are given loopholes to pay zero or little taxes, while working people continue to pay not just high % but often time higher $$;
🍊🤡T negotiates to get $10 Billion dollars from the IRS, while funding for education, health care, infrastructure, everything languishes; 3/..
Our tax payer dollars are being used to destroy our natural beauty and resources by allow copper mining in the Boundary Waters and oil/gas drilling in ANWR;
to subsidize giant oil companies so they can export more diesel fuel which will drive domestic supply down and prices up; 2/..
I am angry, tired, frustrated, furious, depressed, anxious and just so, so mad because (very long 🧵):
Our tax payer dollars are being used to wage a war of choice against Iran, to support Israel's imperial/genocidal aggression against Palestinians, Lebanon, Iran, etc., etc. 1/..
For the record, for anyone who’s forgotten, it’s sheer madness for a president to contradict himself nearly every day. It’s profoundly wrong that we can’t trust the veracity of a single thing that he says.
There are more, and possibly better choices, available in the Maine Democratic senate race than mainstream media would have you think.
I like Mezzetta's tomato/basil sauce myself. But I start with sautéed fresh garlic, onions & peppers, and sometimes add a can of diced tomatoes (without salt). We load our sauce with veggies, no meat, and when we can buy fresh cheese filled pastas. everyone to their own tastes.
if drinking alcohol on the job is a disqualifier I think that takes out two thirds of T's appointees.
Wow, this is exactly the problem that my husband and I have, we find excuses not to do things we did pre-covid like attend outdoor concerts or go to local festivals, I'll take a zoom meeting over an in-person meeting every chance I get.
for me and my husband it was necessary and hard, but also it fed into issues we both had (mild agoraphobia for both of us), and we've not re-entered society well since then, e.g., we enjoy music and used to go to outdoor concerts all summer long, have only gone 2 times since 2021.
There should be a law passed, and enforced, that we will no longer have for profit prisons of any kind! Ever again! Incentivized incarceration should be a crime against humanity and should be retroactively enforced! They know what they are doing is wrong!
T is so corrupt, in so many different ways, but the one that just makes my blood boil is how he is negotiating with the IRS to pay him $10 Billion dollars for revealing his tax forms. It feels like there out to be some way for a group of tax payers (any taxpayers) to go to court to stop this.
what I don't really understand is why the thousands of decision-makers making buy/sell decisions actually listen to anything Trump says, it's all lies. If they simply stopped believing him, then those illegally making a killing with insider information would no longer benefit.
in our younger days, yes. I'm from southwest VA (Grayson county) and my husband is from northeast TN (Greene County).
that's beautiful and it looks vaguely familiar! my husband and I were just talking this morning about the balds along the App Trail in Tennessee and Virginia, and how important grazing ruminants were for their existence.
I learned the phrase in 1970/71 when as a college student I worked as a fieldhand with Hispanic workers & "la migra" was a threat then. It's had a resurgence during the current US administration due to the overwhelming focus on deporting Hispanic immigrants. It's become a way of showing solidarity.
exactly!
was it ever actually "open" or did T just say it was?
I doubt that 600 million Spanish speakers consider it nonsense.
first swear word phrase I learned in Spanish in 1970 when I had a job as a field worker and all the other workers were Hispanic.
oh come on, you're certainly capable of googling it.
Hey, so ICE is still kidnapping and disappearing people in the United States.
Just because they got quieter about it doesn't make it okay.
Abolish ICE. Chinga la Migra.
NEWS: Bette Midler just released a remake of Woody Guthrie’s classic protest song “All You Fascists Bound to Lose,” updated to fit the current moment and urge action ahead of the midterms.
You have to listen to this.
10 or 12 homes is NOT "mom and pop." Mom and pop is one tiny vacation mobile home on a lake somewhere, that's shared with grown kids and grandkids.
Here in eastern Ky we have a local bakery that does this, puts the unsold bread outside at night to be picked up by anyone who needs it.
I've been having these type of dreams more in the last 10 years than I ever did as a student or a professor, I think the political climate is to blame for increasing anxiety.
