In a London pub with @andrewbeasleyfootball.com and a lot of Frenchmen and I wish we could do the same.

The shoes of a toddler, one of the almost 1500 people who drowned on this date in 1912 when the Titanic sank.
A small thread for a little kid.

Treacle comes from an ancient Greek word for wild animal. Which then became a word for poisonous animals. Which then became a word for the antidote. Which then became a word for medicines more generally - which were often gooey syrups, so the word then became...
Love reading reviews like this, thinking I'll maybe check it out, then getting to the end and discovering it's on another streaming service I've never even heard of.
Great piece! Further to your point about the '60s - the similar Apollo 8 mission was famously said to have "saved" 1968 because that year was so grim, it gave people something positive after the deaths of MLK, RFK and everything else.
Marton Csokas seems to have wandered in from an entirely different and far hammier movie, but other than that, it's a pretty stellar cast.
And the reverse "Actor whose limitations reveal the skill of all other cast members" (an award in no way inspired by a recent rewatch of Kingdom of Heaven Director's Cut, in which Edward Norton - wearing a mask that covers his entire face - gives a more expressive performance than Orlando Bloom).
We did a long train journey up north in Sweden in February with our three. It was meant to be 7 hours. Turned into 11 hours after a fault on another train stranded us halfway there. That was...an experience.
God, the absolute 8% of bores who reject the premise outright. "It's not safe!" "But imagine it was!" "No! No! I refuse to use my imagination! I won't! You can't make me!"
We're always on the lookout for new (human!) writers for our podcasts History Daily and American Scandal. Do drop me a message if you're interested.
I - tbf - also like to analyse films when I have fresh head injuries
I mean it does feel like Liverpool have played about 162 games so far this season as well.
Who said you were allowed to support teams that are enjoyable to watch this season? That's cheating surely
I don't disagree with the sentiment - I feel the same - but you look back in history and generation after generation, there are the same complaints about the current crop so perhaps it's just human nature. Or maybe politicians are always crap.
Thankfully I graduated in 2006, so naturally I took the opportunity to kickstart my career while the going was good, and didn't at all fanny around for two years, then decide to do a masters degree, ensuring I emerged, finally ready to work in the go-go summer of 2009.
It's not like most of them are fancy at all - one is little more than a big sandpit with a picnic table next to it. But it's a signal that children are part of society and their needs matter. Over here, far more thought and effort is put into providing for cars than for kids.
This is great - it always strikes me when I visit my wife's family in Sweden just how many mini playgrounds there are. For instance, if you walk in any direction from my father-in-law's house you hit one within about 150m. There are five or six in just the small (car-free!) estate where he lives.
Nick Clegg unveiled a portrait of himself at the National Liberal Club yesterday and it's hard to tell which one looks less like Nick Clegg, the portrait of Nick Clegg or the actual Nick Clegg
I hate that this new coastal path of course has to be named after the king. Can't we have anything in this country that is for all of us, not implicitly, deferentially, cringingly some gift of the monarch?
Hadn't thought about our school trip there in years. What an odd place.
When you had to go onto the train tracks and get the ball and then the lights came up on the big train on the tunnel!
Must...resist... nostalgia for the obviously better times which happened to coincide with my childhood
I think it doesn't help that the chief messengers on the economy are so alike in demeanour. Both Starmer and Reeves just seem glum most of the time. Neither can convincingly deliver the sense that the destination will be worth the difficult journey.
I've seen the great defence today that he wasn't *actively* selling this service...he was just willing to do it when someone asked and then gave an interview about it to the Sun afterwards in order to promote his business.
Which is completely different and fine actually!
As a regular visitor to Sweden for over a decade (my wife is from Stockholm), there are many many lessons we could learn from the Nordics. Integration of immigrant communities *really* isn't one of them.
You going to take this, STP guy?
I've been lucky enough to read this and can't recommend it enough. Even if you think you're not interested in the Kennedy assassination, seek it out - it's about so much more than those few short seconds in Dallas.
!! … ah
Of course not! Just a joke.
