Saw a junkie being asked to leave the big Waterstones when he was near my table. Think this means I’ve finally made it

Hello. I'm writing about model (as in miniature) villages and have a list of twelve so far, all in England. If anyone has one they especially like, I'd be glad to hear about it, please. Maybe in other parts of the UK? But further English examples also welcome. Thank you.

Wine-tastings and white-sand beaches on Australia’s ‘most luxurious walk’ Hardcore hikers look away now: this four-day journey along the Cape to Cape Track is walking at its most indulgent

Wine-tastings and white-sand beaches on Australia’s ‘most luxurious walk’—The idea was to spend four days and three nights in the Margaret River region, three hours south from Perth. www.ft.com/content/9f57... @megaheid.bsky.social @financialtimes.com

The tragedy of Best Kebab TikTok bandits, machete threats and dismal döner meat

Ah Best Kebab, what a peculiar place; a sarbeni used to be a student loan payday treat after a night out. It was always fairly ropey, but what’s been happening recently is a shame - as reported by @robbiejourno.bsky.social

Great to pick up a copy of @megaheid.bsky.social’s An Inconvenience Of Penguins at the book’s Glasgow launch. I think we can all agree that is an all-time great author photo.

I wish I’d got photos of @megaheid.bsky.social doing his launch book reading from behind the bar at The Doublet but I was two pints down by then so here’s some merch. His book An Inconvenience of Penguins is a wild trip, fascinating and funny, and I would totally recommend it.

Happy publication day to @megaheid.bsky.social, whose book An Inconvenience of Penguins is newly hatched. Great title, great concept – travelling the world to see all eighteen species of penguin – and a great story. I hope the book, unlike its daft wee earthbound subjects, takes flight.

The real surprise came after the experiment. Fred Lambert, who writes for the blog Electrek, pointed out the same autopilot disengagement that the NHTSA had documented. “Autopilot appears to automatically disengage a fraction of a second before the impact as the crash becomes inevitable,” Lambert noted.

In a horrifying article about the dangers of Teslas, one point stands out: Teslas automatically disengage self-driving mode <1 second before an imminent crash--not enough time for the driver to react, but enough for Tesla to deny responsibility for fatal crashes, since self-driving "wasn't engaged."

This, by @megaheid.bsky.social, is a fabulous book, as interesting & idiosyncratic as the birds at its heart. If you are a fan of humour, adventure, dazzling descriptions of epic landscapes, a dash of violence, plus a moving exploration of what’s at stake for penguins/the planet, then it’s for you.

I fully concur that the biggest news of the day is the announcement of Jamie's forthcoming book about his unlikely penguin obsession.

I would recommend purely on the basis of his past writing. But I've had the privilege of previewing a few of the chapters and it is going to be superb.
