typesetting (only one part of lettering) is not just "put in text". you need to know what looks good and stupid AI does not know that! and every attempt at this has always been something ugly as hell, disrespectful af, that someone in my position has to clean up!! wasting everyone's time and money!!

A bunch of artists will lose work, the flow and immersion for the reader is ruined, the mangaka's vision is butchered...and they'll probably raise the price on consumers anyway.

I was having sort of a rough day the other day, and I got an unexpected little package. It was just what I needed, but here's the thing. Without talking about it, we both somehow sent each other a package that arrived on the same day!?! Life is weird. Keep doing little nice things for your friends.

It's crazy that in Bartz, et al. v. Anthropic, Anthropic agreed to pay the authors of books they stole, but only if the authors/publishers did the work to apply for a claim? They have a list of every book the stole, they should be the ones putting the work in to get authors their money.

I saw a post on another platform with someone excitedly sharing a photo of a pirated print edition of The Apothecary Diaries light novels. As someone who works on the real English print versions, it made me so sad. If you like something, please make sure you support the official release.

I have many thoughts about it, but I believe his statement was oversimplifying. EN and JP both have tools in their linguistic toolkits that the other language doesn't. East Asian languages' plethora of 1st and 2nd-person pronouns is just one example of this among many. But... 🧵

AI does not "assist" translators, it just makes their work harder, brings down the quality, and impacts their pay. 😭

If you don't want gen AI in your manga, anime, game, and light novel translations, now is the time to make your voice heard. Write to your favorite publishers and developers and ask if they are incorporating LLMs into their process. And most importantly, tell them you will vote with your dollars.

"Artificial intelligence" is a misnomer for genAI. There is no intelligence. It generates text that it hopes humans will think makes sense. The idea of something being factual in and of itself is basically irrelevant to genAI.

Just got sent an unsolicited email from a company wanting to AI dub anime. I replied that I would rather eat my own sick.

Here are many of the projects I've worked on that released in 2025. The list includes Wash It All Away, A Man and His Cat, Dragon Quest: The Mark of Erdrick, The Girl I Like Forgot Her Glasses, Just Like Mona Lisa, Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You, and The Apothecary Diaries novels (print).

Accidentally wiped off my keyboard in such a way that it closed everything and put my computer into sleep mode. When I signed back in, all my browser tabs were permanently gone. No option to reopen previous session. Goodbye, 80+ tabs 🥲. Well, that's one way to start the year fresh.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.
