Most people do. But there is a small portion of my audience with 4K screens who would love for the video's to be higher quality. This update is for them :D
Note that streams will stay in 1080p, as YouTube currently does not allow ultra low latency streaming in 1440p. As soon as they do, streams will also get a higher resolution.
You may have noticed if you watched my latest video, but I am currently experimenting with uploading all my video's in 1440p instead of 1080p. The end goal is to go fully 4K for all video's, though this would first require a PC & monitor upgrade. But eyy, every step up counts 🫡

Matrix is not a bad call though. It is decentralized, just like Bluesky. Meaning everyone can run their own server, and 'shutting down' is not as straight forward as with for example Discord or Twitter.

Indeed it would. I am all for a safer internet, and protecting teens. Very important. But I also don't want to send my ID to a company that showed a few months prior, it can not handle that information security wise. If they immediately clear all data, that is great (1/2)
