Leaning into the abundance philosophy of life, leadership, and work today: there are ample opportunities and resources for everyone, so we should meet challenges with optimism and generosity. ☀️

A graph showing the cumulative incidence of recurrent venous thromboembolism (primary efficacy outcome) among patients who received apixaban at a reduced (2.5 mg) or full (5.0 mg) dose twice daily for 12 months.

A graph showing the cumulative incidence of recurrent venous thromboembolism (primary efficacy outcome) among patients who received apixaban at a reduced (2.5 mg) or full (5.0 mg) dose twice daily for 12 months.

In the API-CAT trial involving patients with active cancer and venous thromboembolism, extended anticoagulation with reduced-dose apixaban was noninferior to full-dose apixaban for preventing recurrent thromboembolic events. Full results: nej.md/41YkRZK

Utah Republicans push to let patients supply their own blood as vaccine concerns linger Health care facilities in Utah would be required to let patients bring their own blood or choose their own donor for medical procedures under legislation gaining momentum in Utah

We continue to see legislative efforts to mandate that blood banks/hospitals allow patients to use directed or autologous blood donations without medical indication. These are driven by vaccine-related fears which lack any scientific grounding. This is problematic for multiple reasons… 1/

This is a strikingly beautiful and shattering read. “I’ve learned to let the beauty of the world and the bravery of other people pull me up and out of the despair.”

I am so damn busy doing the work (& encouraging others to do so, too) … PHEW. Do NOT give up your agency or your hope, my friends.

Thanks to all for being in this together.

Here’s to the long game. 🙏❤️

Thank you. “Natural attorneys of the poor” (and marginalized and equity seeking and vulnerable and forgotten) is a sentiment that resonates.

We feel warmly about kind, smart people who want to help us create a better Canada! For jobs: check out the university of Toronto’s IHPME and our federal and provincial governments’ job sites. I wish you luck in your search - and I hope it leads you to our beautiful country.

A broad answer to your question: We aren’t a country without problems. But as an academic physician with an interest in equity, a believer in science, a visible minority, a friend and ally of LGBTQ2S+ people… I don’t feel the fear many of my American friends feel right now.

So much great sickle cell content at #ASH24! (Including the Ham-Wasserman lecture this year!) Well deserved focus on a too often marginalized condition and patient population.
