Michigan friends! I'm headed your way this morning - hope to see lots of families at tonight's event at Bloomfield Township Public Library (or tomorrow, at West Bloomfield Township Public Library!)

So this gap exists because the Forest Service changed the slogan in 2001. What I'm learning is that older people - and kids who only know Smokey through older media - know the "forest fires" version while most kids know "wildfires."
Thanks! Curious if they'd heard "forest fires" or the updated "wildfires" - any thoughts on that? (This is for one quick line in the upcoming History Smashers book - in that one spot, we want to use the term kids are most familiar with)
Hey, friends! If you have a kid aged 8-13 so, do they know the Smoky Bear slogan that starts with "Only YOU can prevent...?" And if so, which version have they heard? (forest fires vs. wildfires, which is the updated slogan)

Blue background with a gold star for Indies Choice Awards and text WINNER OF THE MIDDLE GRADE CATEGORY. Cover for THE TROUBLE WITH HEROES by Kate Messner shows a boy on a mountaintop with a Bernese mountain dog.
Blue background with white text: "Messner's book packs a punch -- full of both humor and sadness as well as sweeping vistas -- as we grieve and laugh along with Finn. Much like the mountains that heavily feature in this book, it's absolutely incredible." - Melissa Fox, Watermark Books & Cafe
Beyond grateful to learn that THE TROUBLE WITH HEROES is the winner of the Indies Choice Award in the MG category for this year! Thank you SO MUCH, indie booksellers!! ❤️❤️❤️

You are absolutely the right person in this moment. Thank you for your work.
“Go where least wanted, for there you are most needed.”
When it gets difficult to be me in the place and time I am, this panel from @katemessner.com’s History Smashers Women’s Right to Vote reminds me that I might actually be the right person in the right place at the right time.
You might be, too.
Thanks so much for sharing this review!

Artemis II's Orion Spacecraft in the foreground, approaching the moon, which appears as a small round circle floating in space.
Cover of HISTORY SMASHERS: THE SPACE RACE by Kate Messner has white title font against a space-blue background and shows a series of astronauts floating in spacesuits, including a monkey and a dog, also in spacesuits. The dog's caption reads: Woof! There's more to this story.
Artemis II is now closer to the moon than to Earth.
Learn more about the history behind this week's launch when HISTORY SMASHERS: THE SPACE RACE comes out July 21st w/ @randomhousekids.bsky.social! (Cover by @dylanmeconis.bsky.social & int. art by @falynnk.bsky.social) bookshop.org/p/books/hist...
Pastel sketches of three unicorns - the one on the left is tall & blue, with an orange kilt and tool belt. The middle one is yellow with a whistle around her neck, and the one on the right is light green with sparkles in her mane and tale. All three are standing on hind legs like people.
Sometimes the world is just too much but then I open my inbox and find that @falynnk.bsky.social has sent a sketch of a unicorn wearing a kilt and tool belt and that doesn't fix everything, but it sure helps.

We're almost out of time to tell the House of Representative to #FundLibraries in next year's federal budget! If you haven't taken action, now's the moment: email or call your House Rep TODAY: ala.org/showup
Also? It's weird to talk about anyone using AI to write "their book." If you used AI to write it, friends, it's not actually "your book." It's a book created by an LLM that was trained on stolen stories. You didn't write a book. You wrote some prompts.
Having a tough time understanding why anyone would want to use AI to write a book. Like, what's the point? No one is making you write books. If you don't love writing, there are no good reasons to write them. I keep coming back to this...

This legislation will stifle kids’ reading and keep certified librarians from doing the essential job they’re paid to do. It’s unconstitutional and wildly overreaching. Please contact your reps and tell them to vote NO on HR7661.
This is well worth watching.
