keeper of the shadow realm (my partner) has, in great despair, informed me that the retriever of lost items (also my partner) will have to venture out on adventure (bending down to pick them up) before the reckoning (laundry day)

a flimsy paint drawing of a stick figure in bed with a large desk over them, holding 2 computer monitors and a PC case. the stick figure does a thumbs up. title: improvise, adapt, overcome. bottom text: from a pro bedbound disgaymer, meaning disabled gay gamer. signed by Tiny.

Very realistic accurate drawing of how I play games and do other computer stuff in bed. #art #gaming #disabledgamers #adaptivegaming

Attempting to chew a fizzy drink makes said drink evacuate the premises of your mouth, by the way.

I watched video lessons on physics for 4 hours straight on YT the other day. Afterwards, with braincells all fried, I proceeded to try to chew my Cola.

Benefits of there barely being any snow in my area anymore: Wheelchair access outside, yay.

Downsides: The terrifying reality of my area having entirely changed climate classification since I was a child.

Digital painting of a beaker full of blue liquid bubbling up over the edge, turning purple as it dribbles over the edge. The beaker has a line sharpied on labelled ‘so much autism’. The fluid reaches above the line. It’s standing on a shelf, and the name Lavender is written right on the edge is the shelf.

A table at a craft fair-type event shows ceramic items for sale, including earrings, a smiley face spoon, and other knickknacks. There are ceramic letters on the table spelling out “deny depend depose”. The artist is a white woman in glasses standing proudly with her work.

I went to a pop-up holiday market and this white lady selling hand made ceramic earrings was proudly displaying the political message left by an assassin on bullet casings after a successful murder so that’s a bit of a data point for Where Things Are

All you newbies drawing their first comic and haven't printed their comic before: 300 dpi, CMYK colours, bleed and safety, 0 0 0 100 K black text on a separate layer. Make sure you have all of these on all of your comics files, otherwise you'll end up like me having to fix 660 pages of my webcomic

A cartoon 3D render of a complicated sci-fi machine, a long tube with rivets, valves, vacuum tubes and caution stripes, ending in a reflector dish on one end and a series of tubes and a sphere of blue glass on the other.

A little Grease Pencil, a little layer weight shading, a little Aseprite for recoloring, a little magic~✨

Definitely. And both are common. And severity of illness/disability seems only mildly related to recognised vs. not recognised at best. @yesthattoo.bsky.social maybe that would be a good thing to collect acadamically sanctioned data on?

Fortunately they are also very good at expressing when they dislike something. They will generally either fight you or just simply walk away if they're not a fan. If a rat dislikes something you're generally gonna know that very easily, lol.

Aside from the specific tip here, you can come a long way to building trust with rats by just keeping in mind that they are very small creatures. They're sensitive and alert. We're big and quite brawly compared to them. Rats are attentive, playful, and smart, but can also be skittish and careful.

Title: Suggestion for how to alert your rattie. Body text: Gently tap-tap rhythm on the ground near rattie, about a tail's length away. Observe a reaction, you want to know they noticed. Push slow and firm on the rat's shoulder, moving your hand in from their side, NOT from above. Rat is now alert to incoming touch! They know where you are, who you are, can sniff, can walk away, can walk into your hand.

Title text: More detailed info. Body text: While all rats are different, they tend to be easily spooked little creatures. It's also not unusual for rats to be part or fully blind. They can also be deaf. Rats with red eyes have bad vision. Another sign of bad vision is a greyish or cloudy center of the eye. Or you might just know that your rat can't see or hear well based on their behaviour. Bad vision or hearing means less or or no heads up as humans, and other rats, approach them. This makes the spook even spookier for lil rats, and the defense is often biting. We can easily help by making sure to give a heads up before touching them! For most rats this also works better and better with repetition. Being consistent helps a lot in letting your rat learn the pattern of your "hi, I'm here!" signs. Pick a tap-tap rhythm that you can easily replicate! Over time, your rat learns that they won't be touched or picked up without warning.

Rats are lovely pets, but can be easily spooked. A lot of rats also have poor hearing and vision. So! Here's some infographics I made about how to gently let your rat know you're there before you pet or pick them up - regardless of whether they can see/hear you or not. #rats #petrats #pets

There were some useful comments and suggestions in this thread, I think reposting it like this lets my followers go check it out? Someone following me let me know if this is an easy way you can check out the replies to this post (I'm so new to this UI still)

There's a feed for that! It'll show you only posts, no reposts or comments, from people you follow. I like it, it makes the idea of checking up on my friends a lot easier. bsky.app/profile/did:...
