All you newbies drawing their first comic and haven't printed their comic before: 300 dpi, CMYK colours, bleed and safety, 0 0 0 100 K black text on a separate layer. Make sure you have all of these on all of your comics files, otherwise you'll end up like me having to fix 660 pages of my webcomic

Fortunately they are also very good at expressing when they dislike something. They will generally either fight you or just simply walk away if they're not a fan. If a rat dislikes something you're generally gonna know that very easily, lol.
Aside from the specific tip here, you can come a long way to building trust with rats by just keeping in mind that they are very small creatures. They're sensitive and alert. We're big and quite brawly compared to them. Rats are attentive, playful, and smart, but can also be skittish and careful.

They know where you are, who you are, can sniff, can walk away, can walk into your hand.
Title text: More detailed info. Body text: While all rats are different, they tend to be easily spooked little creatures. It's also not unusual for rats to be part or fully blind. They can also be deaf. Rats with red eyes have bad vision. Another sign of bad vision is a greyish or cloudy center of the eye. Or you might just know that your rat can't see or hear well based on their behaviour. Bad vision or hearing means less or or no heads up as humans, and other rats, approach them. This makes the spook even spookier for lil rats, and the defense is often biting. We can easily help by making sure to give a heads up before touching them! For most rats this also works better and better with repetition. Being consistent helps a lot in letting your rat learn the pattern of your "hi, I'm here!" signs. Pick a tap-tap rhythm that you can easily replicate! Over time, your rat learns that they won't be touched or picked up without warning.
Rats are lovely pets, but can be easily spooked. A lot of rats also have poor hearing and vision. So! Here's some infographics I made about how to gently let your rat know you're there before you pet or pick them up - regardless of whether they can see/hear you or not. #rats #petrats #pets
