A dialog by Windows with the title "Stay signed in to all your apps". The feature seems convenient but allows IT admins to take control of the device by setting security policies and installing apps.

A lesson in how to not design dialogs.

More to this: Had a cursed idea to write something equivalent to ValueStringBuilder using Memory<T> and it's actually faster than ArraySegment + MemoryStream?!

Am I doing this right?!

McAfee is an OEM thing, pure installations from MS don't have it.

Partial screenshot of the "get feed skeleton" lexicon in the AT Protocol documentation. (AT is the protocol that powers Bluesky, in case you don't know)

I am using my own domain as the handle now =))))

Except I don't think any app is doing that.

There's hope that migration wouldn't be as tedious as on Mastodon.

Threads apparently uses ActivityPub, which means it is compatible with Mastodon. Though I bet Mastodon server owners would block it.

Bluesky seems to be interested in implementing nomadic user identities though.

and I lost all my posts.

I kinda agree. It doesn't offer true server-user decentralization, something Bluesky is aiming to reach IIRC.

Currently Bluesky has only one instance (well you can try creating others)

Mastodon has like thousands, each with different rules and different federation policies.

Full control as long as you are willing to do it. I've seen many small servers keep shutting down, which is the equivalent of banning everyone on that server.

I don't think I've seen Nostr servers at war with each other, since after all they are not connected.

They generally do suggest a default server. In addition, it doesn't look like the Bluesky people are going to pressure people into using alternative servers, which many on Mastodon do.

Does it work outside of Windows? Haven't tried.

2 years ago 0 0 0 0

You can, as long as the two servers federate.

2 years ago 0 0 1 0

IIRC the culture really wants people to choose a small server rather than large ones. Federation after all.

Let's see how long it takes for Meta's Threads to be blocked ;)

The "toot" name is dead since Mastodon 4.0

Don't forget the catchphrase: "Just use another instance."
