Dude this post is 3 days old. Get a life. Move on.

Always moving the goal post. Dude I don’t care. It’ll come out, and you won’t have to use it, so relax.

You know grace is supposed to have green eyes right? Lighting can definitely change the appearance of eye color, the dlss off lighting turns it to a yellowish color. Lighting absolutely affects eye color, simply wearing a different shirt can change the appearance of your eye color a bit.

It also makes a woman with an umbrella disappear. Talk about respect for original image.

DF held the position that frame generation could be a useful tradeoff between latency and motion clarity, even through the backlash of fake frames. I don't actually think anyone needs to worry if DF will change their opinions on a technology because others don't like it.

The difference is this one was taken from a cutscene where as the other one was taken of idle animation at different times.

What people are showing isn't the exact same image with dlss off and then dlss on. It's two separate videos of a character looping through an idle animation stitched together.

Honestly I think you’re just underestimating how much depth and visual perception can be added by better lighting.

Fundamentally dlss is based on its inputs. It wouldn’t be able to change the geometry of what it’s given and have it be stable. If it did the image would constantly be warping.

Well to be fair nvidia has shifted to using the transformer model in dlss with dlss 4. And that’s the same tech powering the LLMs which are called ai.

Meanwhile older versions of dlss used cnn and that technology is more associated with ml.

But really they’re interchangeable at this point.

Developers fundamentally are using the same core code on all platforms.

The way directX handles a draw call, or a load texture call on an Xbox is different then how it handles it on a PC. And that’s where optimization comes in. Sony has their own api, but fundamentally they do the same thing.

I’m a software engineer. You’re a nobody on the internet.

Game developers need to call different apis. But fundamentally they are running the same algos on all hardware for core logic.

What isn’t the same is what those apis do after being called. That’s where Sony and ms come in with optimization.

You’re not as smart as you think you are.

The PS5 and Series X|S are just x86-64 SoC, same as the new Xbox.

Developers aren’t making completely separate versions of games for consoles to get it to run better on that x86 machine than a x86 PC. You underestimate the optimization Sony and ms do.

It’s not magic. SoC means gpu and cpu are on the same chip, allowing faster transfer speeds and shared memory between them. Single skew of hardware allows for precomputed shaders.

A console isn’t a PC. It’s not a random intel chip paired with a random nvidia chip and some random ram.

Repeat yourself as much as you want, you’ll still be incorrect. Consoles haven’t been subsidized for a long time.

We’re 6 years into this current console generation and you still can’t build a competitive PC for the same price as a PS5/Series X. You can build better ones for more, but the consoles have a lock on that price/performance metric specifically because of the work Microsoft and Sony have done.

There’s a lot of optimizations Microsoft alone can do, that don’t even require third party. At the silicon level, at the os level, and at the directX level.

If successful a developer shouldn’t have to do anything to make a game run better on the Xbox then on an equivalent PC.

It doesn’t need to be subsidized to beat on price/performance. There’s a lot of optimizations Microsoft alone can do with a custom SoC and directX that PC builders using off the shelf consumer components can’t.

Custom SoC will allow it to hit above its weight class. If executed well it will likely be the best performance per dollar in the PC space.

There’s also some niche optimizations Microsoft could do that PCs typically can’t, like shader precompilation. It should outcompete any similar priced pc.

Cool, Will this be a regular podcast (released on a schedule) or will it be more adhoc based on topics?

They use text-to-speech algorithms on items and locations for voice lines.

I haven’t played the game so I’m not exactly sure what that is going to mean.

As a rule of thumb I prefer fully voiced acted lines. But I don’t mind text-to-speech for accessibility or highly dynamic contents.

To be fair, they claim to not use gen ai for art, which is what people actually care about. Nobody really cares if a games uses it for code. Pretty much every single AAA game is using generative ai for game code. Ai has become a defacto tool for programmers in all industries.

Not a game dev, but am a dev.

It’s possible. Depends on the timeframe and what tech they used.

If they used just basic computer clusters and open source databases, that would be sus in a year.

If they used off-the-shelf clusters like aws GameLift and dbs like oracle, then yeah, probably easily.

I have always described it as a fusion of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Rick and Morty.

A sort of fantastical but weird.
