I wonder if a presidential pardon can be used to overturn such a decision?
I think it depends on whatever the maniac in the WF dreams up. So, probably yes.

The greatest damage Trump and Co dealt to the USA is the eradication of trust.
That is the most important component of societies - and what i found to be at an amazingly high level in the USA when I lived there for about 7 years in the early 2000s.

This is not something that can be reversed.

A felon-president attempting to milk no other federal institution but the actual flippin' IRS?
The USA went down a particularly dark criminal rabbit hole.

THIS is what the MAGA crowd is not happy with?

I'm not sure if I'm buying it, their faith leaders have repeatedly talked about him as the ONE sent by the Almighty to fix all the problems and fight off the demonic armies of the wicked. They did not have an issue with that, but they do with this pic?

Yes, gerrymandering helped Fidesz retain many more seats, as compared to how many they would have had, if the party list seats were distributed according to % votes.
This has helped a lot Fidesz in previous elections too, but when you lose this big - it was enough only to blunt the stunning loss.

Keep in mind, the leader of Tisza, Peter Magyar is a Fidesz-pup, who learn't the trade from Orban and co and set out to create his own personal cult. He is also a rightwing nationalist-populist who does not like Ukraine, BUT he seems to be pro-EU.

Yup, Tisza party probably got a supermajority, sufficient to remove Orban-appointed media, judiciary czars and all other key political commissars that require a 2/3 majority to remove.

It means they can actually govern, but it does not mean the neo-feudal system is broken.

that's real "presidential material" for you....

Where the Tisza party won big was the individual parlamentarians, voted on dirfectly - there are 106 such seats and Tisza took 95 of those.

Gerrymandering has its limits but it distorts the hell out of the voting:

TISZA: 53.46%(1,998,807 votes) : 43 seats
FIDESZ: 37.91%(1,417,610 votes) : 43 seats

(Hungarian elections, Party list votes decide on how 93 seats are distributed between parties - 7 went for the ultra-right "MI HAZANK")

yup, swept away

Orban lost big, it looks like the new Tisza party will get a supermajority, sufficient to remove all legal roadblocks to actual power over the judiciary, media etc.

Orban and the reigning FIDESZ party has been swept aside in a historic election with nearly 80% of voter turnout, putting the TISZA party and Peter Magyar, its leader in power with what looks like a two thirds supermajority.

Orban congratulated Magyar on TV about 10 minutes ago.

And because it is at HIS golf course, that money goes to his golf course, not somebody else. He probably makes more money in one weekend, than most previous presidents did during their entire tenure.

The main question now in the elections is what role Hungary will play in international politics, which will indeed be dependent on the outcome:

Will it stay in the Russian sphere of influence (with a view to become Vance's shiv in the EU's back), or will it play along with EU countries?

Regarding the Hungarian elections, two things are worth keeping in mind:

* FIDESZ built a neo-feudalistic system - this is NOT up for change in the election. They outright OWN most of Hungary.

* key political positions filled by FIDESZ can only be changed with a 2/3 majority.

Orban actually said in one of his speaches that if they secure the votes of Hungarian minorities, they will not be removable from power for 20+ years.
This is due to a simple math of these minorities making up about a third of Hungarians in the world and are not directly effected by governance.

Gerrymander is their nickname.

It unilaterally (without consulting neighbouring countries) gave voting rights to Hungarian minorities there (based on self-proclaimed descendancy) and keeps reminding them that the "mother country" will only keep sending grants their way if they vote the right way.

High early turnout in Hungary’s pivotal election POLITICO’s Poll of Polls projects a comfortable lead for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s challenger, Péter Magyar, and his center-right Tisza party.

Elections in Hungary are free but not fair.

The rulig FIDESZ has been known to buy votes in villages and small towns, where it (surprise-surprise) is the strongest.

This is of course a more complex, nuanced issue than what I can discuss in a blute or two, but the case made in the Great Barrington declaration to "let the virus rip", or actually help it infect, is the opposite of what public health is about, casually dismissing the lessons of the past century.

There have been and still are people who thought that "holding back Covid until a vaccine at the expense of individual freedoms" and then "pushing vaccinations" were ammoral.
In essence, they prioritise individual's freedom to infect others over the right of individuals to not get infected.
