People have tried it before and it hurts the tournament massively.
Paywall = less teams signing up = even LESS teams are even considering signing up for a tournament with no teams playing.
And less teams in an open event means less excitement from spectator pov = worse livestream.
It doesnt work.

Thats honestly extremely impressive (at least compared to us lol).
For reference we make around €13 monthly from twitch and on yt we've made €85 total since its inception.

Out of curiocity, whats the %split between your ad revenue & member subscriprions on youtube?

I think unlike mario kart wii or melee, we're directly linked to nintendo's interests for the success of the game.
Which will always spike at the release of a new title and slowly fade over time.

I would assume not. I can see that being a spark for casual viewers and that might bleed a tiny bit into comp splatoon.
But any minimal spark we see from the release of raiders will be completely extinguished by the first month or so.

And ur prob right on that last point. But im tired of waiting for a breakthough miracle that I dont see happening.

Making our own merch and shipping them sounds horrible unless we limit them to specific EU countries only.
And using middle-man sites sounds like a nightmare for quality & service control. And I assume most profits would go to them.
But honestly im just speculating. Any merch sites recommentations?

If a person/group of personalities would be successful on their own, they would just make their own channels.
I personally cant justify such personalities putting in the effort to carry an org's platform on their backs for a portion of their true ROI.
At that point, we're just reinventing machinima.

But we dont really have the viewer numbers to negotiate with brands.
The whole community has had declining viewership since 2023.
Very rare events like SWS & LCS break that pattern, but how do you convince a brand that an event we ask them to sponsor will be the exception and not the norm?

Pls do lmk if theres any obvious / not-obvious ideas im missing. I would literally entertain any idea at this point.

That leaves merch. Tbh, thats smth dapple hasnt tried before, but looking into it I cant see that working too well either.
The only org that sells merch is stronghold and from what I can see in their public funds sheet, its not exactly a luctative venture (around $85 total profit since Jan 1st 2025)

I've tried introducing a 75-25% split for past 20xx prizepool donations but that only reduces cost loss. It never breaks into profits.
Maybe increasing that split is a start, but I cant help but feel scummy about it...

But no other splatoon org can take advantage of the precedent sendou ink has set.
Our primary platform being discord provides nothing in return and individual org websites are not ad-viable (except maybe stronghold?).
