I track all of Mamdani's campaign promises and their current status, including his deliverista protection policies. I don't have a commitment to double the DCWP budget in my records though. Do you have a source for that? I'd like to add it to the tracker if so! cc @sophlebo.bsky.social

My optimistic take: universal doesn't happen in a day & improving daylighting in the first 100 days matters. Similar to childcare: he campaigned on universal 0-5 and is now on track for universal 2-5. A solid trajectory. That said, the advocacy for more is what keeps momentum going!

Exactly right. The whole value of running on specific policies is that they create real accountability. We know what Mamdani promised, we can check whether he's delivering, and that process of promise → delivery is how you rebuild public trust in city government after years of erosion.

The ADU for You program is a great example of cities removing barriers instead of just throwing money at housing.

Pre-approved building plans that skip lengthy DOB review + financing for homeowners = more homes

It’s popular, and IT WORKS. @IPS_DC y'all showed MA's millionaire pop. grew by nearly 40%.

It wasn’t an isolated incident -- I broke down all the other evidence in my latest newsletter. The millionaires are staying put 👇

It’s a bit disingenuous to refer to the budget proposal as a bailout. The legislature is proposing tax reform: a tax increase on high-income households and wealthy corporations. That’s not a one-time check.

Good news: Mamdani used a new land-use review process called ELURP on its first available day. It cuts affordable housing review from 7 months to 3.

Every month counts when we are trying to build 200k more units in 10 years!

Two steps forward, one step back Housing had its best week yet. Libraries didn't. A roundup of week 8 of the Mamdani administration.

First broken promise watch: Mamdani pledged 0.5% of the city budget to libraries. The preliminary FY2027 budget has 0.4%, LESS than Adams gave last year.

Budget isn't final till June. When Adams cut libraries in 2023, Sunday hours vanished within weeks.

The dept of community safety was going to house some of his key initiatives, like Community Mental Health Navigators for every neighborhood. So hopefully this will change come the final budget in june.

Lolz well the UN headquarters is like 18 acres. At NYC density that's maybe 10,000 units? That gets us to 5% of his 200k housing goal. Not shabby.

solid take - i also think it's quite likely. mamdani's platform already tied green policy with affordability. e.g., building 500 green public schools and helping homeowners with the cost of complying with energy efficiency laws...

Mamdani just picked 5 school districts for the free childcare pilot for 2-year-olds:

School District 6 (Upper Manhattan)

School District 10 (Northwest Bronx)

School Districts 18 and 23 (Central Brooklyn)

School District 27 (South Queens)

2000 kids will be served (~2% of New York 2-year-olds)
