One of the things that comes up in AA is learning to tolerate discomfort. Pinning your issues on external rather than internal causes comes up so often it’s a trope.
Not to take someone else’s inventory, but speaking as someone in recovery: the way she frames this as something her friend did *to her* is a type of thing that’s incredibly common in people who aren’t actually dealing with their issues and is a huge warning sign.
Rapidly falling teen births since 1991
The provisional fertility rate for teenagers in 2025 was 11.7 births per 1,000 females ages 15–19, down 7% from 2024 (12.6) and another record low for this age group (Table 1, Figure 2) (4,5,9–11). The rate has decreased by 72% since 2007 (41.5), the most recent period of continued decline, and by 81% since 1991 (61.8), the most recent peak. The number of births to females ages 15–19 was 125,933 in 2025, down 8% from 2024

Matt: (27:13) I think of myself as like a fairly cynical person. And that was so much more cynical than how I would've described farming. You're just like, well, I'm in the Ponzi business and it's pretty good.
The Odd Lots episode where he was on with SBF is a classic example of this
“You see, your body weight compresses the fill on the bottom so if you use a quilt instead you save 3 ounces.”
Speaking as a former thru-hiker, thank you for your service.
Oh yes that part makes no sense. It feels like an incoherent Polish joke combined with calling the Irish a bunch of drunks.
It would be funny if you literally had to climb up a ladder like it’s a platformer game, though.
Oof. Yeah I’m still figuring out the scope of what I can have it do.
A helpful approach for me has been to use it for things that are done via code, even if the output I want isn’t code. Like, I used it to very quickly make a formatted price list for my handyman business, and it did this by generating a couple of Python programs internally, but the output is a pdf
As a 13 year veteran of the Rancho Gordo Bean Club, I strongly endorse this.
Rolex Submariners being in stock and available at list price from authorized dealers with no waiting list.
Yeah stuff like “graduated college before/after 2008”, “were you in high school from 2020-2022”, etc. can have a meaningful effect.
Gen X is a weird case because it lines up with the peak lead poisoning years.
Right, and that volatility itself has a cost, even if the end result is net positive. People understand this in the context of financial markets if you call it Vega and use it to price options, but it’s applicable more broadly.
One side is saying “things are better than they’ve ever been” and the other side is saying “things aren’t great” and both things can be true. People are hearing something different than what the other side is actually saying.
I’m just not seeing the mechanism by which giving money to individuals leads to an increase in the aggregate amount of anything that’s making it in. The limitation is the amount of aid Israel is allowing, which means we can only work via channels that have some ability to grow that pie.
Agree generally, there’s just a perverse dynamic in Gaza because of the specifics there that means direct cash aid will probably make the situation worse if anything. The only effect will be that people who manage to get money can now outbid their neighbors for the same amount of available food.
USDA food security questionnaire
The questions are a little more specific than that, they’re mostly about actual behavior. When they ask about subjective mental state it’s whether they worried they’d run out of food, not about food costs more generally.
Unions are good
oh hell yeah now this is how you kick off monday discourse
Part of the problem with Gaza specifically is that money is not the constraint, it’s food. Giving money to individual Gazans doesn’t increase the food supply, you need to donate to an entity that is bringing in actual resources from outside.

Welcome to town! You have timed your arrival perfectly, shaping up to be one of the nicest days of the year here today.
I can’t believe Waterworld lied to us about this.
Oh fuck off with this bullshit.
