So, small city journalist here, who once covered a rural hotel fire in -40C. Pen froze. Like an idiot, I'd forgotten a pencil . . .

Washington Post Kyiv correspondent Lizzie Johnson was laid off by Jeff Bezos in the middle of a warzone, where she has been frequently writing in pencil, because pens freeze, from the "warmth" of her car with a headlamp, risking her life.

Yes, yes and yes. So *those* scenes were gorgeous to look at (and so were Hudson and Connor, of course), but what really made my heart skip a beat while watching was the asking.
