Honestly, I was hoping to get more attention, but I'm happy with this project overall. Getting from idea to working website in three days was an achievement for me. There were no major issues, apart from some foreign characters not displaying correctly in the image.

This approach works much better on social media, since it doesn't overwhelm the user. Spotify does this well too, combining slides with a summary image at the end. Next year I might implement a similar screenshot-friendly slide format.
Later, I came across TikTok Wrapped, which went viral with >20mil views on a single video. The first thing I noticed is that the stats were spread out across slides, with each slide focusing on a single stat (for example, minutes spent on the app).
3. A story-like experience with simpler stats would have worked better on TikTok
I made a few TikTok videos, but none got views. One reason is that Anki is a niche, but another is that an image packed with stats doesn't work well on TikTok.
Meanwhile, the most upvoted comment on the post was something like "What do you do with our Anki collection data??? Looks scammy". I immediately open-sourced the project, and I was able to fight off this concern. In hindsight, I should have anticipated these concerns.
2. I should have open-sourced the project from the start
I was asleep when somebody first shared their Anki Wrapped on r/Anki. By the time I woke up, I was discouraged from seeing my earlier post removed and didn't check the numbers for a few hours.
I thought this wouldn't be a big deal, but it caused a few issues on Anki-related subreddits. My original post on r/Anki was taken down. However, things turned around when community members began posting their Anki Wrapped images themselves, which drove traffic to the website.
1. The Anki community is hard to reach for competitors
We're also building a new spaced repetition system at rember.com, so I added a small link to Rember in the footer of the homepage, and included an email input box after users got their Anki Wrapped image.
Reflections on the launch of Anki Wrapped
The website received over 6k unique visitors, mostly direct traffic. I focused my effort on Reddit and TikTok.
Here are some takeaways from the launch.
The webapp is a SvelteKit project deployed on Cloudflare Pages. It processes the Anki collection .colpkg file using @effect/sql-sqlite-wasm, generates an svg with Satori and renders a png with resvg-wasm. All heavy tasks run in a web worker. EffectTS was key in building this.

Today I'm celebrating Spotify Wrapped day by launching ankiwrapped.com!
It took 3 days (and nights) to get this working. It processes your Anki collection locally, no Anki data leaves the browser.

I know I know it was a lighthearted reply
It kinda feels good to have a separation of topics, but I don’t think it will last
