What is that first game? 🫣

The "freedom to drive" actually means having zero choice. You are forced to buy, maintain, insure, fuel, and store a depreciating asset on repeat forever.

True mobility freedom is having safe, efficient, accessible alternatives, not surrendering your financial independence to car dependency.

Maybe instead of buying Container, you should try playing it?

can a movie be so good it's bad?

I think on average Just One will land better than Bohnanza, so good call.

What is the most amount of 6-sided dice you've seen in a hobby game?

I would really appreciate more pictures of handsome men and prototypes.

Also is there a way we can anti-tip you when you make a really bad joke? Like instead of us giving you a few dollars, we take a few as your penance?

That is super cool. It does feel like overkill for most prototypes, but I could envision it coming in handy for a few specific projects or even small print-run concepts like the indie night market.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Ahhh, that's a good point.

Having a nicer prototype generally means feedback is more positive and broadly focused as a whole, versus the scary thought of having an ugly prototype where nothing can distract players from your potentially questionable core mechanisms.

I would have guessed you might be able to skip it naturally because you were already talking with so many talented designers.

Just hearing how so many prolific designers playtest with any & everyone usually dispels that idea rather quickly.

Met some local designers the other day and I forgot just how overprotective newer designers are of their games - one asked if he needs a lawyer!

Easy to forget how common a concern that is. And it only holds games back from getting the love & attention they deserve from a variety of playtesters

I am really curious about UV resin printers in regards to prototyping. Please share some pictures of the results if you're comfortable with that Andy. 🙏

While I'm more of a real-robot kinda guy, this looks fucking rad as all hell.

Sick-ass robots deserve more time in the limelight in our industry and I am so happy Quentin is making it happen!

I've never bothered adding 🎲✂️to any of my posts here. I guess the people that followed me from twitter were enough?

I wonder how good a tool that is for newer designers to talk shop - probably better than just shouting into the void.

But of course that's just my experience getting into this world. There is no correct path!

Is it fair that so many of these connections are best made in-person, at pay-to-enter events that require hotels? Not remotely

While bluesky & discords are imperfect, they help get around those issues

Many people I know I met at conventions first when we were far greener designers and then we found each other digitally. I'd say that might be the majority of people I know on here.

And as their cool friends see you know Y person they might get interested in who you are as well!

As for the second bit you mentioned, I say talk about your cool shit even if it's raw.

The other big piece of advice worth keeping in mind is to network where you are at. Go to events and meet people - make friends and keep in touch!

I've never seen anyone say to not discuss a design if its mechanisms aren't locked in. And I've shown off prototypes and then changed tons after posting about it here.

Sure that happens less with experience, but I can't say I've ever seen or heard such advice.

If you have somewhat novel, share it!

The game design discords I've been in have been good-fine at best, save for my local playtesting one. And so many just become abandoned over time, while trying too hard to be *the hip place* to hang at and failing at it.

Whatever games I have with publishers, as I am usually too busy with newer designs. 😅

But in all seriousness it's mostly longer games that are novel but just not something my gaming groups are into like Horseless Carriage. Also games I deeply admire but am burned out on like Root.

And if social media like Bluesky isn't your speed, I've heard great things about @breakmygame.com (I just joined their discord today actually) so that might be a good angle.

fb and reddit seem like rough places to get in those meaty conversations.

Then once you start showing off cool projects, the people that you've been chatting with will be there to cheer you on and discuss those game design queries.

Or at least that's how I'd describe my dive into twitter when I started all this.

This can be a tricky issue, but in my experience it starts with following game designers and jumping into conversations to build up a relationship. When they pose an idea or question, reply and show you're someone worth chatting with.
