twitter down again, welcome back bsky!
ahead of the oscars this weekend, i asked my beloved friend & film enthusiast @freakinguseless.bsky.social to tell me her favorite oscar movies and performances. she's written up this fantastic piece!! dig in theturkishrug.wordpress.com/2025/02/25/t...
every time ANORA happens i'm like... yeah, i should write my fic
imagine being the record exec who heard Pink Pony Club five years ago & not only told Chappell Roan โI donโt think this can be a hitโ but also dropped her from your label over it. imagine fumbling that badly.
i miss this place. wish all my friends were here.

think the 2nd half of THE BRUTALIST is v. messy but this idea that there is so much love inside that marriage but it is no formidable opponent against everything else going on really worked for me. never giving up, and then in the epilogue, it didn't work. repurposed for someone else's ends.
same!!! crazy how much it worked on other people! like, ig...

love movies! sometimes i think it's more instructive to discuss what i liked about something rather than interrogating its faults. genuine, good faith criticism, positive or negative is important, but sometimes i find it easier to nitpick what didn't land for me rather than celebrating what did
You remember that one ad campaign for the Kate Winslet/Idris Elba mountain movie where it just said, "THE DOG LIVES"? They need to do that for The Brutalist where it just says, "THERE'S AN INTERMISSION."
seeing THE BRUTALIST today. excited to find out who the titular brutalist is.
i'm not saying the character is a "bad guy" either but jesus christ is the bar so low that not apologizing for assaulting someone is negligible bc they were just doing their job?
once again, people need to stop telling me igor is a "good guy" i'll k*ll him (have no idea how moderation works here lol)
47% on nomination morning. not bad!
happy oscar nominations morning to those who celebrate
it's truly such a lovely film!!! i haven't gone back and read it so i cannot speak to the adaptation choices, but the emotion of it is so palpable, and you're right, profound. still think so much about certain images and feel them deep in my bones.
i think i've been looking at my stats too much and trying to get the % reviewed up which is not really useful to me. and thank you! you're always so kind <3
i'm not really sure what it is, because whether it's a couple sentences or a couple paragraphs, i want to feel like myreview captures some of my thoughts or my experience? my review of THE ROOM NEXT STORE is short but it's something i wanted to say, vs. my SING SING review which feels more forced?
Today and in the coming days, remember
did this last night... movie of all time! when romy puts samuel's tie in her mouth, one woman loudly said, "ew!"
trying to write more letterboxd reviews but in a way i think it's having the opposite effect than the one i want, i.e. i don't have time to write them all so then there are half-baked thoughts rather than anything really thoughtful or intellectually/emotionally satisfying for me
it's no fun to not really love movies other people do (ANORA; NOSFERATU), but it's soooo fun to be totally moved by and love movies many people are mixed or down on (BABYGIRL; QUEER)
so many films to watch but kind of want to see BABYGIRL one more time before it leaves theaters
that didn't work BUT apparently the machine has to be turned off when i put it in descale mode! finally the descale light is off!!!
descaled it twice and then just did a 3rd "descaling mode" rinse w/o actually using any solution. now im leaving it unplugged and off for 30 minutes hoping this will work ๐ญ
me vs. my keurig descale light
actually think julianne moore fits almodovar perfectly
