I am back from my unplanned Bluesky break to say that I am SO PROUD of @emilysneff.bsky.social. A fellow grad school cohort-member articulated it beautifully: it is tremendous to see the incredible journey of Emily's rich research from talking about in class to it being published. Go go go!!! 🎉

Some of the pre-1692 panic pamphlets are wildly on the nose. Less "I saw Goody Proctor dancing with the devil" and more "I saw Goody Proctor talking to a Quaker and that's where the trouble began" 😳

I think in the US, it's so incredibly uncommon to learn anything meaningful about religion in public school that your mental map of the religious landscape of the entire country is informed by the way religion is lived/practiced/visible in your little world.

Me, desperately trying to verify the identity of the man in the document I've been trying to find for at least three years ->😀

A man in 1789, right before he burns down the courthouse that housed the documents that would have verified the family connection -> 😜

🧵 On immigration court:

In 2017, I observed immigration court and deportation proceedings in Phoenix. The events and results were sad; and the physical space was sterile. Despite this, staff was helpful and judges welcomed observers.

Yesterday I brought 9 college students to observe court in NYC.
