A Red Kite over Big Ben this morning.
Close to extinction in Britain not so long ago, this is one of our most successful species recovery efforts to date.
We can do a lot more of this kind of thing, & @naturalengland.bsky.social we’re excited about new work in the pipeline for many others.
Well done @camcitco.bsky.social. Habitat improvement at Logan’s Meadow nature reserve really bringing good results. Found a couple of Water Rails in there today. Amazing for a small urban reserve. Just goes to show what’s possible with a bit of thought. Otter in there as well. Great work (sound on).
Looking forward to being in this part of Scotland again in May. Hopefully I’ll see a few BlueSkyers in person there then…
That would be one of mine too.
The brilliant Just Earth from @tonyjuniper.bsky.social explores the issue that truly lies at the heart of the climate and nature crises: inequality.
It's out in paperback TODAY so make sure you grab your copy!
Amazing. You found them!
From the heights of Horsenden Hill all the way to the banks of the Thames 🌳
We’re planning a massive new West London Regional Park equivalent to the size of 2,500 football pitches.
More space to breathe, more places to play.
Paperback copies of ‘Just Earth’ arrived today. Thank you @bloomsburybooksuk.bsky.social for such a nice job on the cover & production. It seems like the subject matter is even more pressing than it was when the hardback was published just a year ago.
It’s not that colour any longer
I’m so touched to be recognised by the @bristoluni.bsky.social with their 2026 Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award.
The picture of me as an undergraduate in the early 1980s presents a vivid reminder of just how long I’ve been involved with this work!

The Earth is flat, the Moon is made of cheese & looking after Nature harms the economy. Well put Ruth. Nature IS the economy.
King Charles’s 2010 book ‘Harmony’ is coming out in paperback soon, to coincide with his film ‘Finding Harmony’, which was released on Amazon Prime last week. The film is great, & the book an excellent read to go with it.

King Charles’s new film ‘Finding Harmony’ is out today on Amazon Prime Video.
If you feel our world is in need of some different big ideas, then it’s certainly worth watching.
Get a feel for what it’s about from the trailer.

We do what we can, but some big factors in play here, including air and water pollution.
Seems the link doesn’t work, but this one does

That’s odd. It worked before. Is this any good?

Disinformation around climate action is surging just as threats escalate.
Governments can’t sit by in silence while public understanding is undermined.
Resilience comes from honest communication.

Periodic assessment of internationally important species & habitats out today presents further confirmation of the need to up the tempo & scale of efforts to recover Nature in England. Just 3 per cent of habitat types found to be in favourable state

During the 1990s environmental damage was projected in the future to cause mass migration, food price increases, disease & extreme weather, among other things. We are living now in the beginning of that future. Taking action is vital for national security.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
An across-government technical assessment published today recognises that "nature is the foundation of national security" and that "every critical ecosystem is on a pathway to collapse". A rational response to this would be to get very serious about nature recovery.

We were delighted to welcome Prof Sallie Bailey and Dr @tonyjuniper.bsky.social from @naturalengland.bsky.social to our Wallingford site this week.
A great opportunity to build our strategic relationship, ensuring strong alignment between their evidence priorities and our research 🔍🧪🌱.
A lot of what is said about Nature holding up development is simply not true. It’s wrong. False. At best misleading. If you’ve heard that newts are a cause of our national housing shortage, read this from @naturalengland.bsky.social
