I've always been unsatisfied by the received notion that the romantic concerto is somehow a battle between soloist and orchestra. That doesn't seem to me to be what is going on rhetorically. It's more unified than that, even if agitated exchange might be an intrinsic to it all.
I read today that relic from the tomb on King John (the rotter), which was opened in the 16th Century, were centuries later bought at auction by Edward Elgar. Some fragments of the clothes he was buried in, apparently. A thumb bone had also been pinched from the open tomb, but was later recovered.
