It's been a while since I went on the Metro, but I rode the Pacific Surfliner from Burbank to San Diego last year and it was great. I even took note of cool towns/stops I want to visit.
The trains in CA are great! Also, my next family visit is via train. I've been enjoying avoiding airports as much as I can the last couple years. The time spent on the train makes for a good breather from life.
