A lot of #smartpeople are pretending that Louvre heists aren't cool when objectively they are. You can say hey don't build yr whole political program around jewel heists but u can't really argue that it's got aura. If it returned British museum things to original owners auramaxxxxxxxxing.
“Parents call 911 for help with mentally ill son, so cops come & kill him” is an EXTREMELY common story
But our elected officials & media live in daily terror of being branded anti-cop, so we’re not allowed to talk about it
Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.
We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

They spent hundreds of millions to spread hatred. The sports panic, the surgery lies, the bathroom bills were all tested in focus groups to find what worked best. Then they made a bunch of propaganda.
This was manufactured in a lab by billionaire-funded groups who went on to create Project 2025.
It's hard to articulate the level of anger & rage I have about watching this happen. I first saw weev doxx people I love *TWENTY* years ago. I spoke to founders of multiple social networks about the risk of these people over 15 years ago. I wrote about it all a dozen+ years ago. They let it happen.
pterodactyl (pathetic), but no Arambourgiania, no Quetzalcoatlus? lmao
THEY will die on this hill you mean
I will die on this hill.
WELL NOW, would you look at that?
A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.
I think that as economists we should be a lot more concerned that everyone feels like they've got poorer when the data show they haven't. We certainly shouldn't just be assuming that the customers are wrong, rather than that we're no longer measuring things that are most relevant to wellbeing
That’s one hell of a cover…..
This car costs $8500. Not a typo. Less than 10 racks. And you don't have to put gas in it.
But we can't have it in the US, because we'd rather have racism and argue about solved problems like birthright citizenship, and should Black people be allowed to vote.
So you get Cybertrucks instead. Enjoy!
Re CC leak. The funniest outcome of AI would be the end of closed source code as moat and suddenly everything is open source or dual licensed and u just sell authenticity and trust and ease. Then this but for medical IP. And engineering. Etc
If I were a vast imperial power I would simply not become so hubristic about my military might that I become embroiled in a prolonged asymmetrical war with a weaker power who's fundamental willingness to stick it out means that they can bear not losing for longer than I can afford to not win.
if nothing else, there is something to be said for spending time outside in the sun with thousands of people who share your anger at the state of things
This is a salient point that needs to be hammered at a bunch here: "It is all but impossible for outlets like CBS News to win over any meaningful swath of the Fox News audience."
I don't know how many times I've heard this from industry insiders, yet folks at CBS and WaPo and LA Times keep trying.
I think a popular take on here is that the US military neglected to learn from the War in Ukraine -- this is categorically false.
The real questions are "what should we learn from Ukraine" and "how" and "can we cut across our internal politics to implement those lessons?"
My most succinct statement of why democracy is better than all other forms of government from a purely practical point of view (published January 3, 2025)
unfortunately I must confirm that Trump personally denying Bill Maher a prize is one of the funniest things he’s ever done
as i said earlier it is really a good idea to start thinking of how to start spinning up antiwar activism now
Public service announcement: Please stop with all the adaptationism.
Issue 1: some beneficial traits arise through forces other than natural selection (i.e. they aren't results of adaptation).
Issue 2: many seemingly beneficial traits are not beneficial at all (i.e., they don't increase fitness).
I wrote about how the US and Israel carried out an attack on an Iranian girls school on par with the OKC bombing and US media relegated it to a back page story. No stand alone evening news segments, no front page stories, it made A11 in the NYT then everyone moved on.
'vote blue no matter who'
you all really should be paying attention to the 'who'.
Wars are extremely hard things to justify. It is intrinsic to what they are that they tend to death, destruction, and misery. Given this and some knowledge of history, one's default attitude towards powerful people purporting to do the world some great benefit by war should be extreme scepticism.

i think that all NYT reporters should quit no matter what their politics are or what their race is
