A huge ‘thank you!’ to everyone that attended our Design for Belonging session at #SpringCUE by CALIE, and inspired by the work of Susie Wise.
Grateful to meet so many people excited to talk more about how we’re integrating design thinking & belonging work with our students.

From the CALIE Compass kick-off, to quick catch-ups with old friends, to an inspirational keynote by Lisa Moe and connecting in the Ignite Lounge… my bucket is already overflowing after Day 1! Can’t wait to see what’s next… #SpringCUE
Excited to talk design thinking & student-led learning next month at #SpringCUE.
Julie & I will be sharing how we integrate ideas from Susie Wise’s “Design for Belonging” book into projects that have Ss designing to improve sense of belonging & respect among peers.
Hope to see you there! #EduSky
Such a great day celebrating Global School Play Day 2026 at our site this week! TK-8 Ss played with different grade levels, taught each other games & got creative.
It was an opportunity to strengthen school community, for Ss to lead, & for all of us to enjoy a much deserved day of fun!

Beautiful! I get so many compliments on the one I have hanging in my K-8 Maker Lab.
And yes—the one on the right 🙂
One of my favorites out of 5th grade Maker Lab this past week… Cupcake Nightlight prototype powered by @adafruit.com Circuit Playground Express 🧁💜

Learning about design, line art, negative space & laser cutting w/ @glowforge.bsky.social as we design ornaments in my 5th grade Maker Lab classes. Ss chose to design on paper, in Google Drawings, or @figma.com Design.
Excited to be learning with my Ss & improving my Figma skills everyday! #MakerEd

Really enjoying these pre-made A.I. activities by Seesaw this week! Such a great way to start the convo about A.I. with my 3rd grade #CSed Ss. We’re learning what A.I. is & where Ss already see A.I. used in their everyday lives— from Alexa to TV show recommendations, & maps.

Look at those twinkling lights for #CSedWeek!
Just introduced 6th grade Ss to circuits, @raspberrypi.com Pico & @playpiper.bsky.social and love watching them experiment, troubleshoot and create. First LEDs, next up motors and animatronics 😉

Christmas vibes kicked off in the Maker Lab last week for our 6th grade intro to circuits & @raspberrypi.com Pico

Great discussions & questions about A.I. this week in my 4th-6th grade classes, as we practice prompting to generate images in @adobeexpress.adobe.com!
Love Ss thoughtful questions about the ethics, safety & environmental impacts of creating and using artificial intelligence tools.

LOL! Fantastic!
“Ms. H! I’m just finishing drawing my boss character!” Ss in grade 4-5 working this week on their @raspberrypiorg.bsky.social “Ghostbusters” video game in Scratch— still a favorite! Such great lessons in game design, story elements, sequencing, repetition, variables, digital art and more. #CSed
Impressed everyday with how creative my Ss are! 6th grade has been using Tinkercad Codeblocks to design custom “buttons” to practice coordinates & repetition. They’re turning out even better than I could have imagined!

Watched a tutorial during my morning prep, and had my 1st @figma.com Design created & laser cut (earrings maybe?) by lunch. So fun!!
So I decided to teach my #MakerEd 7th & 8th Ss their first lesson in the afternoon. Can’t wait to see what they create!
Teaching #CSed to some of the younger grades again this year, so of course had to launch with our @hellorubyworld “What Is A Computer” unit! 2nd graders had a blast learning about hardware by building model computers. #CSforAll #eduSky
Student hands sewing together felt hearts with embroidery thread and using a running stitch.

Middle school maker class is rocking their first project of the trimester— hand sewn softies. Learning the running stitch & blanket stitch = excellent fine motor skill work!

Letter J made out of Legos
Letters A L E built from Legos
Name Olivia is spelled using Legos to make the letters
Started with a 1st grade class today in #MakerEd & just loved the outcome of our first project. Ss built their names with a small set of random Legos and they were so creative, collaborative & encouraging in the process!

When we think of “learning outcomes” as the purpose of education and stop there, we miss out on the ultimate aim of school—which is to use the learning to build the person.
Read the conversation between neuroscientist Mary Helen Immordino-Yang and @stephenmerrill.bsky.social for more.

Fantastic first five days of school in the Fab Lab! From Lego build challenges to an Extraordinaires design thinking sprint to our first laser cutter projects, my 2nd-6th grade Ss are already showing so much creativity!

It’s so BEAUTIFUL!! San Jose finally got its first MicroCenter & I’m in maker heaven!!

Always enjoy learning new Maker Lab skills with Jesus Huerta! Great session this morning at Santa Cruz County COE #B2SReboot Excited to add some new projects & plans into my classes this school year 💡

New blog post—> this yr, my 7th graders integrated A.I. into their final robotics projects & it ended up being a great maker-based deep dive into effective prompt writing, how models are trained, data privacy and more!

Good question— virtual cons can sometimes be good, and it used to be that online chats created community, but I haven’t seen those pick back up to what they were years ago. It would be nice to see more local edu-events available.
The one thing I feel like I’m missing while #NotAtISTE is the community
I 💙 this so much! For their final, some of my gr8 Ss wanted to create an animatronic hand to signASL w/@raspberrypi Pico & @pimoroni Inventor. It took hours of classes, lunch breaks & drop-ins just to build & code a few fingers to move. So proud of their hard work & dedication! #CSed #MakerEd
My 7th grade Comp Sci Ss are getting ready to present their final @raspberrypi.com Robotics Design projects this week. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the cool features this year’s class added to the traditional “robotic buggy” build…

DC motors for wheels, I pre-laser cut the chassis for all the teams this year (a few designed a custom chassis) & some designed or requested custom 3D parts. We found a premade design for this team’s claw. They were stoked! I hope they keep doing this in the future :)
My annual 7th grade robotics exhibition is just a couple weeks away, and Ss are hustling to put the final pieces together on their bots. This yr’s classes are trying out some REALLY neat ideas! So proud of their creativity & perseverance!
