Meanwhile, my one hope for the next Democratic administration is that those who have damaged the US and are bleeding the treasury are held accountable.

Thank you.

In addition, a whole lot of the folks removed from gainful employment predated 2020. IMHO, this is more "oh no, our capex needs support, let's get rid of all the expensive people"

Well, it appears we got rid of security, privacy, accessibility, design and safety reviews, handle maintainability concerns by "we'll get to it later" and are actively laying off all the experienced people who keep criticizing this for lacking team spirit /s

I feel the need to unequivocally state that I have my boardgame buying compulsion completely under control. All I need to figure out is where in the house we could install more shelving.

I am so extremely disappointed that the lessons about air filtration gained during covid didn't map to improvements to clean public air, at least in hospitals, schools and other massively shared spaces.

FWIW : I am an old white guy living on the other side of the country, and I have to say I feel extremely represented by AOC, too. I am so thankful for her service to the nation.

In their defense, it took Democrats more than twenty years to start defending our interests a little. I am looking forward to seeing more.

anthropic is literally hiring people for $500k a year to type fanfiction directly into their source code begging their stochastic model to do deterministic outputs and I'm supposed to sit in rooms where people cite their papers seriously as if any of this is real

It's a really fascinating commentary on the time that we've gone from Clippy's unwelcome "it looks like you're trying to write a letter, do you want help with that?" to "it looks like you're trying to write a letter, I am automatically rewriting it as a shopping list, try to stop me, will you?"

Which is bad, but the US constitution is very clear about granting due process rights to *all* people in the country. The fact that they're grabbing anyone at all and disappearing them into a kafkaesque nightmare should be a huge topic and immediately counteracted by the courts.

This is my #1 ask for the next admin - prosecution, accountability and every last dollar in damage done to the US clawed back.

FWIW, the respiratory disease that's been running around our house turned out to be another turn of RSV. Less awful than the last time, presumably because our immune systems got so much experience with it now, but still aggravating and bad for a few days :(

Also, incidentally, exactly why corporations aren't people.

The answer to way too many questions about why modern life leaves a lot to be desired for happens to be one word, over and over again: "republicans"

Free markets in a capitalist economy.... studying for the citizenship test and comparing the answers with US reality is a bit of a trip these days. One of my other favorites: "No one is above the law".

FWIW, my last manager was great at asking for "oh, I'll need slides for a director level presentation tomorrow morning" on short notice. We didn't part amiably.

Living under Donald Trump is like living with an abusive husband whose first move is to isolate you from everyone who loves you. Cut off the support system, poison the relationships, make sure there’s nobody left to run to. Then he can do whatever he wants. That’s exactly what he’s done to America.

A hundred years ago, the U.S. had a nationwide network of short-line railroads that connected most urban and rural communities. By the 1940s, most of it had been dismantled ... by the barons of the auto and oil industries. 😑

IMHO the republicons aren't worried because they know they have sufficient numbers of fettermans waiting to vote for what they really believe in... :(

The fact that every major police union endorsed Donald Trump is under appreciated in our political discourse.

PSA: For those of you who need to vote via absentee ballot I suggest dropping it off at the nearest county clerk rather than trust the postal service this year.. I heard there's shenanigans going on with that..

Happy Birthday to George, and thanks to the two of you for being role models in a world that badly needs them!

How are the people actually hurt by these tariffs - the consumers who overpaid and couldn't hand on their increased costs to anyone else - get relief?

The fascinating part is that this hard evidence pointing to an international conspiracy to end democratic rule, one in which autocratic leaders support the agents of that conspiracy elsewhere.

I got that exact impression from your posts - way too many things piling on top of each other. I am absolutely in the same camp with your husband: just by merits of statistics, a few rolls of the dice really ought to work out for you right about now-ish.

IMHO we ought to measure left/right alignment of mass media and then publish a map. If it's skewed more than 60/40, the overweight media must pay into a fund to finance opposing viewpoints from. We could even weigh by reach.
