A sad squeak from a
small island. Summer bushfires have burned nearly 100,000 hectares of Tasmania’s wilderness, including ancient, irreplaceable rainforest. I wrote this piece pre-summer, hoping history wouldn’t repeat itself. It has. #naturewriting #Tasmania

Is there a more wondrous creature than a platypus? An egg-laying, duck-billed, beaver-tailed mammal must surely be a hoax. In my 40 South Tasmania column, I write about one in our local Hobart Rivulet. #naturewriting

When Charles Darwin visited Hobart in 1836, he was impressed by the view from our mountain, kunanyi/Mt Wellington.
He was less impressed by our eucalyptus trees. In my essay in 40 South Tasmania, I dare to take the great man to task!

Ooops - posted too soon. It looks very interesting here. I hope it maintains its edge, ... And trust you are well too.
Thanks Alex
I hope you had gloves on 😂 Those spines are not mucking about. They're enough to deter most predators ... but not cars, alas. Good job moving it to safety.
Surely the world needs more echidna photos. Here’s one from the patch of bush behind our home in Tasmania. Plus some of my #naturewriting in 40 South Tasmania

Anyone out there looking at the intersection of faith and the environment?
