He missed out despite playing at the period where everyone was getting an ODI cap. Barker's List A record is fairly mediocre but FC I think he fits the vibe I was looking for

It's easy to forget how good the peak of Keith Barker was in the early 2010s
Who are the "best" (open to your interpretation) players to not play for England?
I've got Tom Abell, James Hildreth, and Sam Northeast on my quickly formed list. Keen to know what you all think!!

Reminds me of the 2000 ODI England shirt. Made by Admiral. Those things fitted like bedsheets
Didn't expect this Essex wobble. Come on Middlesex and Northants, let's have some jeopardy π

Could be in for some really good finishes around the ground today. Time for multi-screens

I've got the whites on myself today playing for my club so missing both the action and stream.
Wickets are falling a little too quickly for Lancs to be bowling on Monday
Bounced out hooking. That was a real working over. Great to see two young players going at each other
Nice little battle going on down in Hampshire between Archie Vaughan and Sonny Baker.
Seamer is getting it through quickly. Vaughan is a tad late on a few of these shots
Think so. It's not raining heavily but the skies are ominous and things are pretty sodden
I'm not sure how much more like for like you can get? Bailey would open the bowling if he was playing and he certainly doesn't bowl quicker than Singh Dale.
Was he that likely to score runs for that to influence the decision?
Bring your coat π¬ it's pretty impressive that Balderson and Coughlin have bowled pretty much unchanged and rolled through (even if Bracey's wicket pitched outside leg)
For potentially the final time π₯Ήπ₯² It's strange watching the greatest bowler England has ever produced bowling in front of 200ish people.
I'll never get bored of watching that rhythmic action

I can understand not wanting to play him too much. With a reduced schedule this week I was going to watch a lot of him.
Having seen bits this year I feel like I'm misremembering the game at Worcester. He looks considerably quicker
Shame that Seb Morgan isn't available. Really impressed me this year.
I saw him for Eng u19s last year against India and thought he was a variations seamer. But he's bowled quickly, accurately with highlight wickets thrown in
(Spending a transfer last week on him to prep for this went badly)
Because I'm really good at this, I forgot to promote the new episode π

One of the biggest surprises of the round so far is how ineffective Essex have been.
Maybe last week says more about how poor Hampshire are than how strong Essex will be.
Durham's Ben McKinney waits for Gloucestershire's Graeme van Buuren to bowl during day 1 of the county championship at Bristol
Forgot to post this yesterday. I've not seen many days of cricket like it. Durham in complete control and Glos with absolutely zero control over the ball.
McKinney will have a long Test career if that innings is anything to go by

I'm also over on Instagram where I'm highlighting the videos I talk about on the podcast so check it out if you're into that sort of thing π

Sonny Baker's triple wicket maiden highlights some of the traits discussed on the latest episode
Leus du Plooy career stats FC - 8870 runs High score 263 not out Average 49.26
Sorry, Leus du Plooy averages what in First Class cricket?? Why are more people not talking about this?
I know he's mostly (or entirely) played in Div 2 but an average just under 50 is ridiculous
He's playing incredibly well but I'm not sure he will score many easier than that
102* from 104 balls. Completely untroubled after his first ball. Likely won't score an easier π―. Think this is his 5th FC century.
If you want an idea of how Gloucestershire have bowled. 18 boundaries and two 6s in his 100...
Using 6 bowlers after winning the toss and choosing to bowl isn't a great look. There's been very few good deliveries bowled.
I thought the same about Brookes, maybe he isn't match fit? But that would be a guess on my part.
La la la I can't hear you π π
Averages just under 34 at 21 years old and has a great conversation rate of 4 centuries from six 50+ scores.
I'm not going to be able to shake the Crawley comparison now. McKinney probably does better if we give him 60 Tests
You're going to see him feasting on some really average (that's being kind) bowling
First look at Ben McKinney in the flesh today. Just looks the part. Imposing presence at the crease and so far has played with excellent judgement

There's an alternative reality where Richardson is chief tormentor of England.
Shame his body has so consistently meant he hasn't played the volume of Tests that his talent deserves
ποΈ Hello? Is this thing on?
The podcast is back and I'm looking at some of the uncapped (with one exception) players who made their England Test case from Round 1 of the County Championship π

Who is on your radar?
We're not going to win the Ashes in Australia with that attitude!!
I'd really like to see spin encouraged in the county championship. I don't want to see sides playing on pitches like the Pakistan series of that last series but exposure to spin is only a good thing
