"Local government is where policy becomes practice."
Excellent op-ed from @sup-nikkifbas.bsky.social on how critical it is that cities & counties work TOGETHER to protect community members from ICE.

In Alameda County & across the Bay Area, we are sending a unified message that our communities will not be defined by fear. We will use every tool available to uphold access to public services, due process & basic dignity.

It was unanimous! Alameda County Board of Supervisors officially oppose reopening of former Dublin prison for immigration detention or corrections.
Glad we are on the right side of history & justice.

Our office is hiring for an Office & Communications Manager. We are looking to hire someone who is well-organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-through and who is aligned with our Office’s values of equity, inclusion, transparency and accountability.
Because of Trump's Big Brutal Budget HR1, refugees, asylees & other immigrant groups will lose access to food assistance.
Proud that Alameda County stepped up, allocating $16.5 M more to food security. We urge our state partners to step up too. Food is a human right.

We must recognize the work that lies ahead of us to combat the discrimination, violence, and disproportionate poverty the trans community faces; at the same time, we must uplift trans visibility, honor trans people's contributions to our lives and our society, and celebrate trans joy and resilience.
Through our Alameda County Together for All (ACT for All) Committee, we are coordinating a proactive response to protect, support, and lift up communities impacted by new federal policies, including the LGBTQ+ community.
Today, we observe International Transgender Day of Visibility. Amid the federal admin's attacks on trans people and the LGBTQ+ community broadly, through discriminatory executive orders and legislation, misinformation, and fear-mongering, we stand with our trans, nonbinary, and intersex siblings.

Thx to enviros for your advocacy! Look forward to supporting public engagement on ways to make use of and sustain this part of our beautiful shoreline.

Bay Area airports are *not* on ICE deployment list, but there have been recent arrests at OAK & SFO.
Enforcement doesn’t only happen through visible deployments, it also happens through shared data systems. We must understand how our information is being circulated & be prepared.

Airline passenger data is routinely shared with TSA & DHS, which means it can also be accessed by ICE.
Arrests at airports nearly doubled under Trump in 2025. 2/3
documentedny.com/2025/12/05/i...
Under Trump, there’s been an increase in arrests at airports, and the risks grow as ICE expands into these spaces due to the partial DHS shutdown & the government’s failure to pay TSA workers. 1/3
May 1405 be a year of health, happiness, resilience, and prosperity, for all.

نوروز پیروز! 💐
Wishing a peaceful and joyous New Year to our Iranian, Afghan, Kurdish, Parsi, Central Asian, and other communities celebrating Norooz. In this time of reflection, we remember the countless Iranian lives lost to war and repression and hope for a brighter and freer future.
During challenging times, our community has each other's back and continues to fight for peace, justice and well-being. As Muslim neighbors' faith tradition says, 'With hardship comes ease.' May our entire community continue to come together with love, solidarity, and gratitude. Eid Mubarak to all.
"Thanks to the outstanding work of our community partners and city staff, and the strong support of @sup-nikkifbas.bsky.social, we're making meaningful progress in addressing homelessness by creating the stable, permanent, supportive housing people need."

We must protect patient care at Alameda Health System. Special Board meeting today 3:30pm to hear my letter with Sup. Miley to ensure layoffs deferred thru 6/30/26 so we can work together on options & solutions to impacts of federal budget cuts. Agenda: alamedacounty.granicus.com/DocumentView...
Housing is a Human Right! The Board approved $53 million from Measure W to expand permanent supportive housing, including 7 projects in Oakland & Berkeley. Centering those with lived experience of being unhoused is critical to ensuring that our investments are equitable and impactful.

#HealthcareForAll. Thx to all who spoke about the impacts of layoffs at Alameda Health System.
Today, our Board took action to: defer the layoffs, work with AHS on other options + report back on March 17, and form an ad hoc committee with AHS & labor to ID options for this and next fiscal years.
Congratulations to Oakland’s own Alysa Liu for winning 🥇 Gold in women’s singles figure skating at the 2026 Winter Olympics - the first such American woman since 2002! We couldn’t have a better representative on the Olympic stage for Oakland and for Asian-American women in sports!

Bay Area County Supervisors stand united in our commitment to the dignity, safety & belonging of every community member, regardless of immigration status. As we prepare for the Super Bowl, our message is simple: unity over division, power over panic, and care for one another. We all belong.
Please join us next Tuesday, February 10 at 1 PM for a proclamation at the Board of Supervisors meeting recognizing Black History Month, where our office will be honoring Robert Phillips of Baywell Health.
This month and every day, let’s celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth and dream #BlackFutures. We must honor the history and progress that has been made while acknowledging that we must continue organizing to achieve true freedom and liberation.
