Question from Paige Tutt, Edutopia Editor: What big topics or themes in education dominated your thinking this school year?

Question from James R in the Jam Session: My students often find themselves drawn to AI to assist them with their writing because it can sound more formal/polished than what they produce themselves. I’m trying to help them understand I’m not looking for polish. I’m looking for their original thoughts. I want to see and hear what they think! How can I show students that their unpolished voice is actually what I’m looking for?
Response from Brett V, Panelist: What about something like this? with a photo of Marcus Luther's Beautiful Language Wall, a corkboard covered in small bits of exemplar writing.
Second part of Brett's response: Marcus L uses a student exemplar wall to celebrate student words, and you could certainly include less polished, more human, quirky examples on your wall to do this. It’s something I’ve tried and found success with, though I’ve never done one on the scale of what Marcus creates. Would this help celebrate our quirky, imperfect, human voices?
Have a question about teaching writing in the age of AI? This week’s community chat—we call it a Jam Session—is *full* of helpful advice.

3 questions that appear the end of my article for Edutopia on AI concerns with teachers
We are certainly at a crossroads around AI in education (and likely will be for some time) but I continue to think the focus needs to be centered on the choices ADULTS are making, not the students
Three questions I think are worth asking any educator using AI in their work right now:
One thing (of many) that I 🧡 about the @edutopia.org community: Educators always show up to support each other. 🫂
I asked who are the MUST-follow voices in education online. Over *700* comments FILLED w/ recommendations across our channels (Facebook, Instagram, + our Ask & Answer forum) 🤯
The "espresso martini" brunette hair color trend feels rich, picture of a pretty lady (gracie abrams?) with such hair
Hearing about this new trend. It's called brown hair
We’re working on curating a list of the most essential voices in education right now, and we want your recommendations. 📣
Who are the “must-follow” accounts that fuel your practice?
If you miss the live chats on Edutwitter back in the day, might I suggest checking out Edutopia Jam Sessions? It has such a similar vibe- lots of resource-sharing, teachers getting to ask questions and receiving quick responses from other teachers, etc. www.edutopia.org/ask-and-answ...
