Whose 250th Is This Anyway? The nation was birthed in Philly, and we do have some great plans. But, as democracy teeters, are we really owning the semiquincentennial?

Remember how strange it felt when Biden took over and the news got boring again? It was jarring, in the best possible way. I want that back.

Particularly in this moment of federal fiscal retrenchment—with deep cuts to redistributive programs like Medicaid & education funding—the amount of taxable wealth within municipal boundaries (local fiscal capacity) is likely to become an even more important determinant of life outcomes.

The Structural Violence of Municipal Hoarding - The American Prospect High-wealth communities segregate and protect their treasure from municipal redistribution.

These municipalities often function as tax shelters for their residents & corporations, providing locally-exclusive services (and access to the metro economy)—while avoiding contributions to redistributive programs for local neighbors outside jurisdiction. prospect.org/2020/07/06/t...

POLITICO Pro: Trump administration proposals seek to eliminate transit funding DOT recently sent two proposals to the White House budget office seeking to pare back transit money.

Trump Admin is planning to ask Congress to dramatically cut funding for transit as part of the 2026 infrastructure law.

The proposal would eliminate the transit account, which funds billions of dollars in capital expenses. It would also prevent states from “flexing” roads funds for transit.

This is what was at stake during the budget impasse.

Ultimately no districts shut down, but some like this one and others (see below) came close.

Every year HIAS PA typically helps our newest arrivals celebrate their first Thanksgiving by inviting them to a meal prepared and served by our volunteers.

However, this year newcomers cannot come to celebrate this traditional holiday without exposing themselves to danger.

So instead, a teach in:

Others either have not taken the time to really distill their beliefs to what are being thrown around today as prevailing definitions, or are sheepish in articulating them

Sure because of leftist spaces I actually know loads of anti zlonist jws as well, but that's a pretty skewed sample, a minority

Yea, I had a conversation today about an unrelated topic on this platform. I've had time to sit with what I believe and articulated that in my bio, with predictable results. It has become easy to speak in absolutes and with derision to even a post-zlonist; to anyone who does not call for dissolution

I have no real quarrel with the different type of structure you outlined.

Thank you for answering.

The second post in this thread says to be cautious of what i read to be statism, therefore to be cautious of statist communism, and not see that as the answer to fascism.

Later there is a discussion about deaths in statist self-styled communist countries.

That resonated.

I am drawing on my lived experience. Small scale collectivist and mutualist efforts seem to work. They seem to not be able to scale, because we end up with states such as the USSR; where I have lived experience.

Happy to hear better examples from you. I recognize that is labor, so do not expect

And you must also see that I absolutely do not support the religious zlonist party, likud, otzma yehudit and other parties -- parties that stand against Palestinian statehood, parties that favor settlement expansion, parties that support a nationalist vision for Israel's legal and social framework.

And since you want to shift the conversation, you already see I am good with the region evolving towards that with gradually invisible borders, freedom of movement, and eventually that vision, but not with a revolution that selectively eliminates one while leaving others w/their in-group identities.

I'm not sure why you would confuse my caution for communism with support for maga.

Are you only able to think in binaries and picture politics on just a single dimensional axis or spectrum?

This administration has been one of the worst for the environment to date.

It is also very reminiscent of the snitch culture for dissent of ideas and stripping away due process.

It is actually very similar to USSR in many respects.

I think the big examples are just statist and authoritarianist without rights and utter ecological disasters who have killed millions in gulags holodomor and the like.

i think collectivism and mutualism is cool and also as it starts to scale, watch out...

if you count ussr as communist i can tell you it was plenty imperialist pushing russian on all republics it gobbled and it was an environmental disaster with not just chernobyl but unimaginable pollution; i only took my first full breath after leaving. red rivers from iron ore, soot on windowsills.

Yeah, we have real issues like all the food banks losing funding.

The federal Local Food Purchase Assistance (LFPA) USDA program, canceled in late 2024, took away many boxes.

So now with SNAP, so
e residents have even fewer places to turn.

He's not banning private grocers from operating, anyway.

Running on economic anxieties and pocketbook issues works.

Making certain segments feel "seen" and validating their unaddressed concerns drives turnout.

A successful formula for both parties.
