Colin Curtis joins us for a countdown of the first Disco Top 20 of 1983: electro-funk & scratching were rising, jazz-funk was waning, a superstar's follow-up was struggling, a couple of underground NYC classics were re-emerging, and - as ever - Colin was tastemaking.

My recommendation: Arthur Baker's Looking For The Perfect Beat, especially his episode with Kieran Hebden which I think you'd really enjoy: open.spotify.com/episode/0BfC...
I'll take a listen. Thing is re PRS: most podcast hosting platforms aren't set up to host copyrighted music, so as podcasters it's out of our hands. I get round it with separate Mixcloud/YouTube/Spotify playlists.
A wise move IMO, and that's what I do here as well. Doomscrolling = self-harm, basically.
About bloody time! Welcome to The Good Place (comparatively speaking), and may your stay here be a pleasant one.

Reading the excellent second volume of James Hamilton's Disco Pages, expertly reassembled by @whichdecadetops.bsky.social, and although he's into the '80s now it's still startling, though amusing, to see how much my Young Punctum writing seemed to have been influenced by his reviewing style!
Mike Atkinson and Greg Wilson
I had a splendid time on Saturday with @dj-greg-wilson.bsky.social at the launch for the new James Hamilton book, after which I reconstructed a set from early 1984, detouring into a late 1983 set when he played 24 electro-funk records in 24 minutes. Here's the mix: www.mixcloud.com/miketd/james...
Hope you enjoy it! There's plenty of PR stuff going on, and in the pipeline, but I need to do a bit of catch-up with Bluesky (being bedbound with the flu last week didn't help!)
This has just arrived and it looks brilliant. That's the bedtime reading sorted for a good while.
The first volume is brilliant, and I'm so looking forward to this. James Hamilton's Record Mirror column was a must-read for me until about 1985,and led me to discover some real gems.
