I love when resolving a small narrative issue (protagonist needs an iron to get himself presentable for a job interview) introduces a new character (the guy down the hall who has an iron).
I didn't plan on that guy being in the story, but hey, he has an iron!

Just called my representative to urge her to oppose HR 7661, the national book banning bill. Here's language you can use to do the same: action.everylibrary.org/callhr7661
I wrote about books as luxury items, specifically that books are being adopted by luxury brands at an increasing rate - Dior, especially, also Prada, MiuMiu, and now Coach book charms, in partnership with PRH.
IMO, books as a luxury aesthetic reveal cultural anxieties about reading and access.
The inimitable @heykellyjensen.bsky.social with a deeply informed perspective on hope & the importance of being present
All of this.
The only way we survive as artists (of all kinds: writers, visual artists, musicians, etc) is to stand in solidarity together.
Looking forward to chatting with @shanatargosz.bsky.social on Saturday afternoon at the Clackamas Barnes & Noble about her new book The Underwild: Relic of Thieves! stores.barnesandnoble.com/event/978006...
i need authors and agents to be much louder with their publishers how much they hate gen ai and make it embarrassing/financially harmful for publishers to be associated with it at every level (incl marketing, publicity, and sales)

the Snuff perfume in the pipe. also, watching that made me reflect that Fashion Brand Company is very much in the Schiaparelli tradition

Wooden bowl full of stones, shells, & a greeny-black ceramic scarab with blue-green wings. Behind the bowl, a stack of antique letter fileboxes.
I made a ceramic scarab & nested it in a wooden bowl among favorite stones & shells.
The latest episode of @trufelman.bsky.social Avery Trufelman’s always-excellent podcast Articles of Interest should be of particular interest to comics people. They go into real depth on Dan Decarlo’s & Archie Comics’s long history as fashion influencers.

two small ceramic creatures against a wood background: a purple bat with folded wings and an orange rat with a yellow tail. both look anxious.
I took a ceramics class—first time I've worked with clay since junior high!—and made Anxious Bat & Anxious Rat. (I didn't exactly plan for them to be anxious, but it became increasingly clear that they were.)
perfect angle for capturing the magnificence of Tato

The latest book censorship analysis from @heykellyjensen.bsky.social is particularly insightful, connecting the dots between attacks on YA literature and waning support for teen services in libraries, which were never well-funded to begin with. A hard but important read: bookriot.com/the-disappea...
Agree with this so strongly! I'm mostly not anywhere, and mostly lurk where I ostensibly am (here & Insta). I've never ventured onto Threads & don't intend to, but I hate that this probably means missed opportunities to connect with readers.
I recommend PG Tips in a builder's tea configuration. I use 2 tea bags, honey & full-fat Oatly. I am imprecise about steeping time but when it's turned dark amber, I add the Oatly. Strong, sweet, satisfying.
