2 - Jannik Sinner has become just the second player born since the inaugural ATP Tour season in 1990 to defeat the ATP #1 in finals on multiple surfaces, after Carlos Alcaraz. Duopoly.

Everyone working in sports data today benefits from the work that Rob has done over those 28 years. One of the absolute giants of the industry, and an excellent guy that it was a privilege to spend a few years working alongside.
Not sure there's anyone else who's been there for the entire modern history of soccer analytics

Impossible to overstate how important outlets like Orb's OptaJoe were 15+ years ago when it came to educating wallies like me about data and the correct way to use it. He's one of the best.
Really like this
How much is the quality & competitiveness dependent on the top club?
•The biggest change in competitiveness can be seen in Liga F, highlighting Barcelona's dominance
•Bundesliga is very eventful & is highly competitive w/o Bayern, who are a level above the rest.
Is WSL the best league in the world?
I tried to look at the numbers behind what makes a league competitive & eventful
•WSL is very eventful but has a top group of teams above the rest
•NWSL is very balanced in both metrics
•Liga F is a fairly competitive w/o Barcelona
This is a really interesting way to look at it
Wales, down 5, try playing out of their own 22 for about 4 minutes after time and finally get through to halfway.
Then drop it.
Scotland boot into touch.
But brought back to review a high tackle.
Now 7 minutes after time.
Trick line-out.
Pass errant, into touch.
Finally full-time.
Wales-Scotland women's Six Nations, 12-10 at half-time. Good Saturday afternoon rugby. On iPlayer and presumably some other places
My friend who runs an award-winning bookshop has probed the question: readers prefer paperback novels. So why are there so many goddamn hardback releases?
Monegasque? Monesgasque!

Good to see comparison of this set of leagues on both the men's and women's side, and good choice of data things to look at
Added a new paper to my 'stuff on women's football that I've read and liked' hub -- some playing style evolution over time in top leagues, alongside same comparison of men's top leagues

Had the Osaka derby on for about 5 minutes, there's been a clear penalty and a scramble for a goal (or not? who knows yet). Lot of VAR. So much admin.

100%; to 'yes and' this, if you have means of getting a selection of games you can shortcut this a little by concentrating on certain circumstances (imo)
Hamburgers too big, we gotta make burgers smaller. We’re doing way too much with burgers, and you can’t even reasonably pick them up and take a bite.
"The entry price to even attempt this strategy is: own a private golf club, have no shareholders, face no democratic accountability whatsoever, and be willing to forego corporate sponsorship for two years rather than admit a woman as a member ('03 & '04 in the face of Martha Burk’s demonstration)."
Nice line from the latest Unofficial Partner newsletter (on The Masters and why there are few 'what to learn from ...' lessons from it):
"The business model that underpins Augusta’s apparent indifference to money is, in fact, an extraordinary amount of money."
although I'm actually not working on it much rn because I'm hitting up against the weekly Claude token limit

I think my extended bluesky feed (follows and main accounts they follow) probably has a similar number of really great people and people who really tread the line between 'letting off steam' and 'keeping themself in a mire of negativity'. But the latter get way more engagement than the former
Bay FC('s ownership vehicle Bay Collective) have bought a majority stake in Sunderland's women's team and I really hope part of their criteria was 'in city with big river'
Space rocks.
Completely ripped off this idea except for hockey data: 5plusspieldauer.shinyapps.io/Data_Features/
