Took over a new module this semester, returned it to in person exams (due to..). Gave a sample paper, used some of those questions in the actual exam (being "nice") . Got the near enough exact same wrong answer from a quarter to a third of the class. Guess what they had used to "study"?

That I can understand but really January will be fine. I clocked out at 5.00 today with my out of office on and have deleted the email app from my phone
It seems so obvious to me why people do it (I had one I wanted to send but just couldn't get around it and I felt bad about...for a few minutes).
I never ever get why editors are always complaining about this. People want stuff gone so that they can have a sense of achievement at the end of year going into a break. The majority of people expect nothing to be done until the new year.
I knew that it had gone down the toilet (I read the Covid article referred to in the story) but had no idea it had gotten so bad.
No Ralstonia pickettii? Usually when they print this stuff they have the decency to include it so I can at least get some citations. Why do Journals keep printing this stuff?
Very good show, then they decided to make a live action completely reliant on you having watched it....
Every generation feels the world is on fire but the world really is on fire
Congratulations!
Congratulations
Still the Daily Mail gets to talk about Hitler and the war for a bit so ...(Presuming this is about Hitler's small penis and not that someone has cloned dinosaurs)
I know nothing in this world should surprise me anymore but what the hell is this? Like something from a distopian Sci-FI novel.
Exactly, it is not a simple thing to get across like "Covid bad" so hard to communicate. I have a neighbor who it took three courses of different antibiotics to clear a chest infection and he was blaming the doctors for it. I was able to explain to him the issues to him but hard to do that for all.
I suppose silent in the fact that no one is talking about it (outside of specialists really)
And yet ... crickets chirping...
Have had a skim read and really fascinating stuff. Hoping to dig into during the week.
No child should be dying from the Whooping Cough in 2025. Antivaxers have so much to answer for.

Here's our new broad review on the extended mobility of plasmids, about all mechanisms driving and limiting their transfer. From conjugation to conduction, phage-plasmids to hitchers, molecular to evolutionary dynamics, ecology to biotech. The state of affairs. 1/9 academic.oup.com/nar/article/...
Shocking....(Completely obvious for anyone that has tried to use it for anything but the simplest task)

It's the overwritten marketing speak that makes everything seem like the writer climbed Everest that gets me about LinkedIn ("I am delighted to announce that I successfully opened this envelope this morning"). It overloads my BS detector. Plus like you it activates my imposter syndrome like mad...

Excuse my Friday evening brain with its terrible reading comprehension
My only objection to this story is that it is begins with Kristin Scott Thomas being described as 'a minor celebrity"
I have unblocked Elon on the other place and grabbed the popcorn. The world might be screwed but at least we can enjoy a bit of schadenfreude on the way out.
It is wrong to be enjoying this as much as I am? I have even unblocked Musk on the other place.
